finally something new, that actually looks good! it appears that you really didnt have to modify the actual console much at all, so that would make it that much easier! props on the fab work looks great! cant wait to see it totally done with the seats in too!
Gotta agree that looks killer.Kinda disappointed with mine now gonna have ta do some yard hoppin now.But ya mentioned thickness of carpet earlier.Had same issue matchin carpet to sub enclosure for the well area.Mines chev red too not burgandy or tan or even blk. What i did was hit fabric stores and found same color red as a felt and used it.Not perfect match up real close but with hatch closed looks like carpet same color and all.Much thinner. They had a black material at wal-marts faberic section that looked just like the same texture as the carpet but was much thiner.Juist an idea.Damn I gotta hit the bone yards now.
highly impressed, do you still have the origional templates for the base? you may be able to sell them as a kit for the base of that console that you fabbed up.. i know if i'd of been thinking of doing this i'd of rathr just bought the base kit from you than have to make my own.. it looks like you did a lot of high qualiyt work here. Good job man. do you have any finished photos yet?
Thanks for all of the positive response! Sorry for not keeping everyone up to date... The car will be re-painted early next month and will (crosses fingers) hopefully be completed and fully assembled by then. I'll have a ton of pics to post up then, including shots of the interior with the completed console. Here's a pic of a new white leather shift boot I added to the RX8 shift plate as well as pics of a couple other goodies that will be in the car...

I'm pretty busy these days, but I may be able to come up with either a base kit or templates some time in the future.
One other quick fact you guys might be interested to know about the console and my install is that I will be consealing the AC controls in the ashtray. If I can, I'll try to get you some pics of the completed console sooner... -Josh
i cannot wait to see the rest of the install finished. im really looking forward to seeing the completed install, as well as what you did around where the normal console ac controls were.
I love it, totally original project. Very nice craftsmanship as well. My dash/center console is toast in my car. I have been thinking of trying to do something different and this gave me some inspiration. Thanks man.
I sure hope theres no rule for number of bumps from one user...I just REEEAAALY want to see the finished product! i'm really looking forward as to what he uses for a Hvac and a radio pod.

I'll give your bumps a break.....bump for me....I want to see more pics of the finished product!
I'm very interested in this, as I work at a Mazda dealer and my console has seen better days. How did you get the console to match up to the dash, looks like there is a big (1.5-2"?) gap there in the previous pictures. Really looks good with the black carpet, too bad mine's tan. This is the first time that I did not think my tan interior was great looking. Definatly would match up better with the red and black Corbeu CR-1s.
Stupid cars, there's always another thing to mod, improve or replace.....

a "bump" is what a person does to bring a thread to the top of the page. if you dont bump a thread, it will get lost further down the page or next pages. people bumped the topic to keep it going and get the original poster to reply.
Alright, when are you going to mass produce them? Line me up. That looks awesome, i like how you made it stretch to the back seats too...I knew it was messing something other than a Nitrous tank.
Yes...Im interested too. Especially because this would be tons easier on an M6 or M5 car... No bulky auto shifter assembly to mount around. And the front of that thing looks like it would mate up to a firebird radio pod pretty nicely.
Any luck with getting that RX8 e-brake handle to work? That would match the seat recliners on my (and others) 4th gen leather seats. The "eject" style handle... Generally, adapting ebrakes to work should be pretty easy. Just a matter of making the main pull cable work.
hey camaroguy21 all of us neeeeeeeeed an update and you havent reponded since may 6. the new year is almost here. the public needs to see more pics are you done tell ussss!!!!!!!!!
