Ide like to do what you are doing to your interior one day. Strip it COMPLETELY, fix some rusty stuff, dynamat it, and put it back together with new hardware. Nice and tight and clean.

I will be using 90% of the 4th gen engine harness and the entire 4th gen dash harness. My plan is to have ASSC Racing make an adapter harness for the factory 4th gen engine harness to the BigStuff 3 computer harness.
Wiring is next on my list......this weekend I didn't quite get the dash in the car, I had to make some minor repairs and mods to the A/C ducting behind the dash. Now with those out of the way I can get the dash mounted permanently and begin the arduous task of figuiring out what wire goes where.

Ahh,good ol wiring days,sounds like fun.lol Good luck Neil
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
Ok, I know...more Dynamat! I am sure by now you are all sick of it and honestly I am ready for a change of scenery myself. So, here's the Dynapad layer I thought i'd show you before I put the dash in (hopefully tomorrow after work) and also pics of the A/C box installed.
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
One more thing, it maybe just the angle of the picture but it looks like the heater core's position is modified?? Are you planing on re-installing that big box cover thing that goes over and around the heater core? If so, does it not interfere with the passenger side airbag mounting bracket?

Cheers,
Richard.
The heater core is in the factory position and I installed the cover you were speaking of last night. Like a moron, I didn't install it when I had the dash out rather, I chose to challenge myself and put that cover on laying on my back, twisted up like a pretzel and making up new words in the process (because you know it would have been way too easy to pull that dash out again and easily install that cover). The reason it was difficult was because the 4th gen duct work comes in close contact with the areas of the 3rd gen box where this cover seals. So, I had to loosen the dash mounting bolts, support the dash with my head and use a little muscle to get the cover to seal/snap into place, then bolted it up!!! Pain in the a$$, but it's done. I started weeding out the wires from the harness...the factory speaker wires ARE GONE!!!!!

Motor update: crank, rods, pistons, bearings are at the shop, still waiting for piston rings. My guess is I will have the motor in a couple of weeks. The heads are 4-5 weeks out, so for a running date.....I am hoping by mid-end of August, sooner if I am lucky!
More pics of the dash in the car, with the final layer of thermal/sound barrier (this stuff is very light, bought it from Summit) and the carpet in.

~~~ Dude Neil suach a sweet ride....Soooo Jealous! Since i have joined this site my car seems to me like a pile of sh//. I feel lost on this website with my car. I am slowly doing her over, but what really messed me up with her was the hurricane KATRINA cra/. Hopefully my car will be half as nice as everyone elses car on here. My first 3rd gen was sweet I had help from my dad(his $$), I had a 67 427 out of a vette(scared the cra/ outta me when i was 17) Custom paint and exausht(5inch)headers. The reason I got rid of her was she wasnt what i really wanted. Now I have what I want and its a very slow process. Doing all the work myself is very rewarding though...anyway The car and build is a beauty man defintely keep us posted!!
Sorry guys, I have been busy with work and also I am having to minimize the times at which I work on the car since I am living in an apartment. Now on that note and to make a long story short, I moved in this particular complex with the 'verbal' agreement that I would be working on my car and that occasionally I would have to work on it in the driveway. With that being said (and after a management change) apparently some older woman complained that my working on the car makes the place look "ghetto". Too funny, everytime I pull it outside, people sh!t their pants, stop by and want to talk. Anyway, so I bought a couple blower fans and i'm trying to work on the car inside the garage with the door closed and actually it's not that bad temperature wise, it's just tight as it's a 1 stall garage. That loser biaaaatch, lol.
Progress update: as you know the dash is in, still working on the wiring (alot of freakin' wires). So far, I have the rear tail lights and fuel pump wired, the factory stereo wires i've identified and i'll yank those since i'll be putting in much better speaker wire. What's confusing is that the '02 dash/body harness has alot of wires which go down the passenger side of the car and I have no idea what the hell they are for??? I have asked my buddy, Dennis to get me the schematics for an'02 so I can figure out what they are for. Anyone care to chime in? I have the Chilton's manual and it blows!
Last night I started cleaning up the doors, dropped the old window motor, cleaned the regulator (oh and that freakin' coiled spring popped off, I was lucky...that little bastard had some tension on it!). So, going to have to pull the regulator out and re-install the spring unless any of you guys have a better method?
The 454 LSX is built, now just waiting on the cam from Comp Cams so they can stab it in and spin it to make sure the rods clear. Heads are about 2-3 weeks out, I ordered a set of Allpro 6-bolt/cylinder LSW 12 degree heads. The 6-speed trans about 2-1/2 weeks away, having one built with a viper output shaft from T-56 Rebuilds, there website is www.sixspeedsinc.com in Houston. More than likely i'll be going with a Mcleod Twin disk clutch with a steel flywheel. We're getting there. I'll keep you all posted with more frequent updates, ok i'll try my best! Have a happy fourth of July and be safe!
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
Wiring question for the '02 Camaro dash/body harness. In the attached pic, where does this section of wire go? I believe it goes in the engine compartment and the rectangular block (bottom of pic) mounts through the firewall to the similar block which is behind the dash on the driver side, just above the pedals. Am I correct in thinking this? Also, notice where I cut about 50,000 million wires (top right of photo), any ideas what was on the other end??? The camaro I removed the dash and harness from was pretty badly wrecked and I had no choice but to cut the wires at that point.
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
Neil,
Could be wrong, but Im pretty sure those plugs are for the column. I think the blue one goes in with a black one that looks similar, and they kinda have to be plugged in together...
Cant remember where exactly that little block goes...but Im pretty sure it goes "through" the firewall at some point. As in its part of a block.
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
Ok, the shortblock is assembled and I should have it next week! FINALLY!!!!
In the meantime, I gutted the passenger door...removed the window motor, regulator and window. Cleaned the tracks and regreased with new lithium grease. Dynamat'd the inside of the door skin and will use POR-15 on the bottom of the door (inside). Also had to JB Weld a few spider cracks on the inside of the door where the window motor and regulator are mounted.
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
*whistles* damn man where do people like you find the time to learn how to do all this O_o And how do you find brand new parts for everything?!?! haha sweet job keep it up!
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
OMG, Holy Sh#t...where has this thread been hiding!
Neil, absolutely awesome work, I had no idea that 335 could be tucked in the back like that. I have to start reading the thread from the beginning now.
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
Ok, I really can't say I have made alot of progress on the door panels, but I will share this with you. The 4th gen camaro door panels are a PITA and will not fit with any ease at all (far right pic). ALOT of modifications will have to be done to the door and the panel itself in my opinion.
The 4th gen T/A panels (left and middle), seem to fit better and will sit flush against the door once you remove all the plastic mounting hooks (I also removed those from the camaro panel). See the pics, the T/A panel is the one sitting almost flush. Though there will still be alot of modding to get the panel to fit prefectly as you all know.
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
One more pic of a full view of the 4th gen T/A door panel. I am thinking of cutting out the speaker and lower door pocket section and fiberglassing my own in. For now, I would love to just make this panel fit reasonably well and have the handle function properly. I'm getting anxious!
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
Judging by what I see, it appears that the upper plastic "hanger", has a narrower slot for the sheetmetal, meaning the metal of the 4th gens, in thicker/deeper than a 3rd gen.
Maybe it can be Dremel'd out to allow the 3rd gen door to fit? Can the 3rd gen top be transplanted?
HOLY CRAP.Neil that harness looks like nightmare I've already lived.My 89 GTA,when I purchased it had no motor or trans.,the engine harness was completely hacked up,and the interior was home to not sure(rats or squirrels).The car was also a digital dash car which the residents decided to make a meal out of.After removing the dash,I found that the harness was not damaged but the digital cluster didn't work at all before I removed it.So I chose to just cut off the connectors for the back of the cluster,color code wire the harness with the connectors from a regular cluster and after I got everything done,started the car,turned on the headlights to make sure the motors worked(they did) walked around the car to check everything out and returned to the driver seat only to find a bunch of smoke billowing from the headlight switch.AHH! I quickly pulled the switch out and disconnected the battery,and currently working on replacing the complete instrument panel harness.I know my problem has no significance to your harness woes,just wanted to say,be very careful with that.And once again,that car is going to be absolutely beautiful man.
Thanks man! Now, here are some more pics that should get your attention, pics of the LSX block. Without going into too much detail, the machine shop basically could not sell me the assembled shortblock due to contractual obligations with other shops. So, I kinda got hosed in this deal, instead of getting an assembled short block, they sent me a brand new, bare LSX block. Now I get to basically start over with machine shop and parts selection. I do have a shop in mind and I am thinking of going with a Lunati Pro Series Crankshaft, Lunati Pro Billet Rods and JE pistons. The Bore X Stroke will be 4.185 X 4.125, which will still provide 454 cu. in. I'll update you by mid week for the '2nd' timeline on short block completion.
For now, check out the LSX photos.........
Re: Phase I complete, now Phase II IROC restoration - on to the interior!
looking perfect, as usual Neil. keep it up mane! see if you can get a few days off work to wrench on the car, haha.
