I am aware. That is what I am trying to do too. But with this frame setup and no such thing as a mini-tub really, I feel like what I am doing is the best bet. Spacers are safe. I am not sure about you, but I have seen plenty of cars, and off road trucks use them, and all been fine. If you torque them the right way and maybe toss a little locktite on there for piece of mind.
That was you have a more adjustable way of sucking the tire inward. The only other way to do it would be to mock it all up somehow and then have custom rims, or a custom width rearend. Both of which are preicy parts. This way, if i ever mess up or something like that, I am only a couple hunderd bucks down and not stuck with a custom offset rear or axle. If i toss 315s on my 11" rims, and shave my spacers, I garontee you they will tuck real well. I have a LOT more space than stock right now. It is just stuffed with 335s, thats my main problem now. But the car is getting painted now, so this will all be worked out over the winter.
If you find an easy way to do this all, PLEASE let me know. I will keep everyone updated on my progress as usuall

I rarely post on this board, but you car has inspired me to do so. Neil, your car is gonna be sick! Granted, it's not a '91-'92 'Bird, but it'll do Please keep us updated of course. Also, to the shop doing the work......BEAUTIFUL!
P.S. - I'll be the first to nominate Neil's car as the best 3gen on this board. Blows Kandied's car outta the water! Good show

[quote]neil, i just went back to look at some pics. One of the pics on the first page shows the OEM quarter cut on 3 sides and then "bent" out so it "flares" out toward the back of the car. Then in another pic in post #39 it looks like the quarter was indeed cut apart from the car parralell with the door seam and it appears a hammer was used in this location to bend the sheetmetal outward to get it angled toward the quarter. Can you explain a little more on what is happeing in these photos?[quote]
BottledZr28, sure, on the pass. side the whole quarter/rocker was removed due to the amount of bondo in the "dog leg" section. From here, as they did on both sides and John could provide more detail as to how they did it, but the new quarter was cut, stretched and additional metal welded in to create the proper degree of flare. Once the angle was established, a long strip of metal (approx. 1 1/2" wide) was added to the top portion of the quarter, near the window back to the tail light area. I hope this helped?
As to how the car looks now in primer, the amount of flare from just behind the door is very subtle and after it's painted I will take several pics of this angle so you can see how it looks with color and then Gfx on and hopefully with wheels. Speaking of which, hopefully I get the wheels soon!!
I am using a 3rd gen rear end and rolling the quarter lip will probably happen, just to be safe. I was hoping to have done a trial fit with the wheels/tires so that could be done prior to paint.
Derth and all you guys Happy Thanksgiving!!! You are too nice, though Kandied's car is amazing and I don't think mine will blow his out of the water, I would just like to be in the same class.
To keep you guys updated on my hunt for the motor, I have been talking with Sunset Racecraft Performance and they are trying to get me a L92 block so they can build me a 418 cu.in. I am 90% certain that I will be using a Callies Magnum crank, Lunati pro-mod rods and JE pistons. So hopefully, by next week I will have the motor build underway, keep your fingers crossed!
Just chill guys, he's not going to leave us in the dark. They don't need to rush, that's when mistakes will be made and since Neil is spending a shitload of money on this car he wants it perfect. When progress is made he'll let us know.
Thanks and I'm glad you all are anxious, We will be repainting under the hood and jamming it in probably tomorrow night. Neil has been very specific on what he wants for graphics and they will be done before it is cleared so they are flush with the car. This is NOT a quick process and right now we're finalizing the graphics. Thanks for all your interest! I'm sure Neil's really excited to see all the comments.

I think it was posted earlier, but could you post your shop details (address, phone #) again? If we decide to keep our 84 Z-28 I may need to look you up.
Here is John's information: Vintage Restoration of the Woodlands is the body shop in the Woodlands, Texas performing all the customization and body work. It took me a while to find a body shop willing to do all this work and willing to do this within reason. (John Evans - owner 832-477-6066 e-mail: jre30@hotmail.com)
Put down the turkey sandwich, LMAO!!! and yeah, as soon as pictures are in my inbox, they will be posted here! Maybe tomorrow night!
Thanks Neil, I'll save that to file. I have no doubt how hard it can be to find the right shop. I went through a half dozen shops in this area before I found one in Rockwall (near Dallas). My 82 Blazer is there now.

Guys, I have pics of the wheels just out of the box. I requested that iForged send one front and and one rear wheel before they finished them entirely so I could make sure the fitment was just right. Wheel sizes are: 18 x 9.5 and 18 x 12. John will be sending more photos shortly with the front rotor, caliper and wheel on!!!
Should have some shots of the new paint color if all goes well tonight, it's under 40 Degrees here so were running the booth heaters! Should have some pics for Neil by say noon tomorrow.

I have e mailed Neil pics of the new paint. I can't figure out how to post pics within his post so I guess you will all have to wait unless someone wants to tell me how to do it.
We're doing more today and by Monday night/Tuesday, should have the bulk of the car painted.

I think that I like the first color better, but this is your dream. I can't wait to see that in the sunlight, when it really "pops". I can't even imagine how pumped you are getting.
Oh yeah, I am getting pumped!!! I don't want to say when the car will be painted, because the paint Gods will then start messing with me, lol, but it should be soon. I think this time around the color is perfect.
I am now pricing Lunati and Callies rotating assemblies for a LS7 427. I don't want to rush into making a decision on the motor, so i'll see if it's worth it going with a 427 over a 418.
As for the wheels, John is going to have the rear tire mounted just to make absolutely sure the backspacing is correct! So, i'll have more pics for you....we're getting closer!
Yeah...WAY too far into to start rushing anything. It'd be better to wait 6 months, than to screw something up, and hafta redo it, or look at it and think..."I shoulda..."
Oh, quick story for ya....last Friday I was driving from Dallas to Houston and this C6 blue vette BLEWWWWWW by me and I was doing 80, my guess is he was going around 110-130 m.p.h. AND he had a nice sounding exhaust. My thoughts were....."if I only had my camaro finished and driving it right now!!!" Cause you know I may never have another opportunity like that again, right!!!!

I can imagine the C6 owner... "A 3rd gen just handed me my a$$! WTF???" As to increased your lead, he would be trying to figure out the back tires fitting. With the widened rear bumper, I bet it looks stock, until you figure out the extra distance between the LP and the light lenses.
The trick to pull even, leave him, back off, line up, leave him again...toy with him!
