i got my 92 Trans Am 350 tpi my second freshman year for doing well in school lol ... well that didnt last to long, got to drinkin...heavily one night..drank a half of a half gallon of spiced rum(16 years old)..i think i hit a parked 300c but thats the only thing....but now its fixed again after my second wreck..cant say much bout the second except it was wet and these cars dont keep traction very well in the rain/snow/ect... and steel lightpoles do not budge...and i was sober... found the same color junk car(couple shades lighter but o,well)for 500 bucks and had some fun cuttin stuff up and puttin it back together....moral of the story dont drink and drive.....and stay in school lol my bad if that was to long
i just started my sophmore year... i have a red 91 camaro with ttops 350, roll cage, 373 posi, flowmaster 40's, 4in cowl hood and chrome 18 in irocs i get my lience in a couple of months.... me and my dad built it, i had to work and pay for all of it and mcdonalds.........fastest car in my school....i love it.... we found it for 600 bucks...
i used my graduation money to buy my 3rd gen but lets see, i started with an 1988 cutlass 307 wrecked it, then an s10 4x4, then a S10 V8 355, it was considered the fastest in the parkin lot, a real head turner. but any how i guess u can say that it might count since i used my grad money to get it
Drove 1980 Trans Am in High School. Graduated in 1983. Bought a 1985 GT Mustang new. Then my 1991 Formula new in Jan of 91. I still have the 80 Trans Am and the 91 Formula today
Bought my 85 IROC-Z back in '95, I was 17. Still own it and love it! Pretty much untouched except for swapping out the original 305 for a 350, pollished face of the IROC wheels, and lowering it. Still remember the feeling of driving up and parking it in front of the school for the first time! Got that butterfly in the stomach feeling, knowing that sexy beast out there was yours! Guys, you remember that feeling!!! Nothing could ever take that away from us.
well i didn't own a thirdgen when i was in high school, but i rode it one regularly. my stepfather has a 1984 and he bought it when i was a sophomore in high school. i used to love getting picked from after school actvities. everyone would be waiting for the bus. and here would come my stepfather coming to pick me up in his bad *** 84 z28. i thought i was hot **** and it wasnt even my car. i promised myself i would buy a third gen camaro when i had established a good driving record/insurance rate. i was affraid that the insurance would kill me when i was just starting to drive. i turned 25 in march of last year. that spring i bought my 89 RS. i know its only an L03, auto. but it has Ttops, has enough power to be fun to drive yet forgiving, handles like a dream, is good on gas, dependable, clean. and best of all its mine. i have a 350 im going to build for it. one step at a time it will become the car of my dreams.
i had a 1984 H.O. Camaro with more rust than body. I had it three months before i had my license. i miss the engine but the rest... well i like my new better.
i got my first 3rd gen an 85 trans am when i was 15. the only time i got suspended was when i was blowing a donut in the parking lot on my lunch. smoked out the whole parking lot and people stopped on the road for a minute to wait for the smoke to clear. that cost me my power steering pump.
Who didnt have a 3rd gen in highschool? Me my friends all had camaros and firebirds. My Friend matt had an iron duke camaro! Little 4 banger! I had a 1986 trans am and my friend frank had a 91 rs camaro. My buddy rich has a 1982 firebird 2.8 6cly. None of us have our origional 3rd gens, Mine in particular wasnt worth saving, had lots of rust. I ended its life senior year with a 100+ foot long jump over some train tracks! The front end bent so far up i could not see out the windshield to drive it! On the last day i drove it to school i slamed it through the fence and when i left i backed it into the school, then smoked the hell outa my tires. The tpi made it to my nova, the rear end in to my friends 86 trans am, the interior also his car , the t tops made it to an 89 camaro, and the rest of it was crushed. Dam that car was was so much fun!
the end of my sophomore year my brother moved so he gave me his camaro. it was an 82 z28 indy 500 pace car edition. he put a 350 CFI in it and thats really about as far as he got. after that it was up to me... i threw in a posi rear end off of an 84 TA, then replaced a ton body panels, did some interior work and then got it repainted the same blue/silver paint scheme as the pace car edition and threw in a streetfighter 700R4... then the 2nd day of my senior year i got ran off the road on the way to school an totalled it
then in november i got the 92 rs convertible i have now. currently working on a 383 engine swap, with the 700R4 and rear end as well. soon to be an ss hood as well. i graduated last year: 2 of my friends had 3rd gen camaros, and 2 had 4th gen's... including mine thats a total of 5 at my school they certainly are everywhere...
got my hunk junior year for $600 from my cousin. fixed a rediculous amount of things on it, but decided later on the project wasnt worth it because it had been wrecked, painted black over red and whoever did it, did a shitty job. engine was a cali spec engine, ugh
but god i loved that car. nothing like doing a whole car urself to make you love it more
wow my thread is so popular i am gonna sell my 1996 mustang next year and get a camaro like 88-92 with t-tops ill have around a 5k budget here we go again
Got my GTA when I was 15, with no license, and I payed for my own car through cutting grass. I have fixed it up so much stuff on my car, it is unbelievable. I have tried to keep it original, but the previous owner put in a CD player, and that kind of made me mad. But, next year I will be a Senior, and will have the fastest car at school.
Just a list on top of my head that I have done to it.
New front right wheel
New driver side window motor
New front struts
New front suspension (bushings, tie rods, etc.)
New SB 355 Engine
New inner door handle
New passenger side fog light( as it was missing it)
New turn signal lever
There is more than that, those are on top of my head
What it needs:
headlight motors
hood and hatch struts
rear shocks
rear bumper cover needs a paint job as it is faded pretty bad on the corners
a couple of little things I won't bother you with
Just got a wild hair to post all that.
Well, now I'm a Senior and am the second fastest car. A 1999 LS1 Camaro is ahead of me. Besides that dude everyone else gets owned. Honda's get their $#% handed to 'em I must say, bring on their little NOS kits. Maybe I'll punch LS1 dude out and then will race while he has a black eye. Just kidding. But, I have since then fixed the headlight motors. It's been a fun ride and can't wait to continue it. Lets see what next year's update will be. Procharged GTA has a certain ring to it.
i'm a junior in highschool and got my camaro a month after i turned 16. It's 92RS with a 3.1 and 5 speed trany and duel exauhst( not sure what kind but sounds amazing). Me and my dad rebuilt the rear and top half of the engine. Its a metallic kinda lookin blue.Though it does have some rust it still turns heads every were i go. This winter i'm hopin to polish the rims and fix some rust. thers it think 5 firebird/camaros in my school. Me and two of my friends have the only camaros. One has an 89RS with a 305 and my other restored a 81 camaro, painted it school colors(solid orange with black racing stripes) and put a 400ci engine with performance cam, headers, carb, exhaust, and just about everything chrome. Haha i'm the only one with v6 though :..(
in my junior yearbook i have a full color photo of me standing beside my car with my friend josh and a friend nikki nearby i had gray racing stripes and vinyl letters saying rally sport on the top windshield i need to get another for the ten year reunion in 2011 im getting old
I had 3. Sophmore year had an 86 Z28 then Junior year had an 86 Trans am and back to the Z28. Senior year had an 88 Iroc and still have it and love it!
Man,this thread makes me feel old.My car in highschool was a 79 z-28.My older brother was the first one to own a third gen in the family. That car didn't last long.It was an 82 with the 4-banger.I think he bought it just because the front seats reclined.Yeah,he had a couple of girlfriends back then, end of that story.
me too, i had a red on red '79 Z28 in high school (graduated in '95)
355, TH350, ran mid thirteens and was the fastest car is my school.....
kinda sorta....started out with a '73 nova ss,then my sr. year i had an '84 Z 5spd, and finished strong with a quick '85 mustang gt. my girlfriend at the time had a superclean 87 GTA ,10 yrs later she became my wife and the GTA is in my sig' .... nice huh
I got mine in 9th grade. I had a 89 Firebird. I had to sell it. I bought a 4x4 dakota but later on I bought a 82 TA that I Makeing into a dragstrip car.
Mine could never make its way out of the shop in highschool........first moter i bought locked a wrist pin.....second one stacked a rod bearing......Third one still runs....Cause i built it...
Bought my very first Third Gen in Grade 9. Got it at a auto insurance write-off auction. Was a '84 Firebird S/E. Metallic Blue exterieur with grey lower pinstripes and a dark blue interior (Interior was absolutley MINT but had that early crappy 80's feal to it). Fell in love with it the first day I saw it. Paid 300 bucks for it!. I did'nt know much about cars at the time so i parked it for 6 months and just started learning about these cars. Finally decided later on to work on it. Bought a new door for it, new fender, and small stuf for it. Once I started prepping it for paint, I found HUGE chunks of bondo covering massive holes in the body. Basically, I lost all hope in the car and just junked it. Now, bout a year later, I was able to drive and badly wanted a Third gen. Found the car I drive now, A 1989 Firebird. V6, 5-spd, and new rubber thrown in (BF Goodrich Radial T/A's) for 1600. Only problem is that the guy before me didnt like the colour so rattle canned half the car flat red until halfway thru decided it was a bad idea . Second month of getting it, I put on the Bumpers, and tail lights off of the 84. Then found a complete black interior for the car. Parked it for the winter now and will be giving it a good paintjob, putting in my black interior, and refinishing the rims and putting on the new rubber.
I'm in Grade 11 now and everyone loves it. Very fun car and once I'm done with it, it will be the nicest 'bird in my area ( I hope!). Don't see many Firebirds where I live.
Blue car was the 84 S/E, Red one is what I drive now (Don't have any good or new pics of the red one)
i got my 1st 3rdgen when i was 15. it was a 92 rs with a ton of probs. i got my 2nd one my senior year of high school. it was a 91 z28, with 77k on the clock and absoluty mint. then i ended up selling it because of the military and moving across the country. and im hunting for another one
got mine mid 11th grade, nice 87' sport coupe with a daytona iroc hood lg4 but oh well, seriosuly hard not to leave rubber ^^...ran it for about 3 months before the engine died on me i'm now in my senior year and tryin to buy a nice 305HO from a guy hoping to have her running by christmas lol, ...and a planned 383 build around april ^^ ...oh how i wanna drive her again..so much fun just sitting there people lookin even with faded and spotty paint
I had three while in high school. First was an 84 with a 4 cyl., then an 86 with a 2.8L., then an 88 with a 305, which I still have and still drive. I would still have the 86 but I hit a tree when I was 17.
im a sophmore, i just turned 16... i got my car a year ago..paid 600 bucks for it, 130,000 miles got int good motor needin paint .. its kinda funny, i got ot a catholic high school, where kids think their suv's and volvos are fast... me and my friends are the only kids into cars at all...i just got my perment and already have the fastest car in my school... my friends have a 91 firebird, 89 gt, 94 camaro v6 5 speed, 69 camaro 427, 68 307 convert, and a 98 integra... ha ha we are takin over the lot..lol...

yea its a 5.0 lx witha h.o. motor, but he has super high gears and a 3 speed auto (idk ford trans names) and its bone stock right now...i have 342's out in my gruage right now from a v6 camaro...i wanna put them in so bad..
had an '86 my senior year, then after graduation I bought a totaled '92 convertible (lost a couple grand on that thing fixing the hack job done to make it a convertible and get the factory quarter to fit)
got mine during the summer before 12th grade, 305 88' with t-tops, only 400 dollars, bought gold gta rims for it to. all it needs is a paint job but everyone loves that car. even beat a brand new $25,000 mustang last week, i couldn't stop laughing. putting a duel exhaust in and going to paint it black soon. love that car more then anything
Yeah I had one, got it shortly after my 18th birthday, bday money plus working at a pizzeria for 2 years paid for it myself. 1989 RS 305TPI, 99k, the 305 was heavily modded out with a big cam, aluminum dart heads, roller rockers, loud 3" exhaust, etc, it was pumpin out a lot of horsepower, at least 300 probably more. I raced and beat everyone and on the last day of school with all of my buds packed in and an open parking lot i did the biggest donut, I smoked that m****er for a solid minute and the lot was just smoke and round tire tracks... ahh good times.
Well im still in highschool and i have a 1987 Firebird with a 305/700R4 and no matter what it puts me through im not getting rid of my Bird and i Have Pretty big plans for it, like a 455 H.O./Richmond 6-Speed/3.73 gears/Road Racer that blows the tuners doors off
