You always hear the story about how people gave up their high school car. Decided i didn't want to lose mine, and just kept throwing money at it, cheaper than a new car anyhow...
It went through a 350 tpi, then a tpi 383 with a cam, and now has a 6.0 LSX with a cam, duals, uilt trans, etc.
First car was a dodge diplomat detectives car....yeehaw
Was it blue like Virgil Tibbs' car (In the heat of the night)?
I got my first thirdgen when I was 15 (I'm almost 30 now), it was a '85 T/A. It had a 5 speed and even though the 305 had worn rings it would easily bark the tires in 2nd gear. I taught myself to drive a stick in that car. It was supposed to be dark blue w/ silver gfx, but some idiot painted it teal green (think Cavalier or Beretta).

I got my thirdgen last year in december. I am 14 and I got my first car when I was 10. That was a trashed out 75 nova SS which I slowly restored to the way it is now. My second car was my 82 Pontiac trans am recaro edition which my dad blew up the motor in early jan of this year. I wasnt very happy about that one.... The car I just got last month is a 81 DeLorean dmc-12 Thats in less than stellar shape. So I am definitaly going to have some fun in highschool. P.S. No I am not rich in fact my family is lower middle class.

i still have mine, im going into 12th grade and ive had her sence oct 07, but ive been working on here and been tryin to get all the rust off the body and under body, she has 109k miles right now and its bout to hit 110k and i just beentrying to give her a better life and last year i drove her in the snow and i know its bad but now i have a mopar to drive in the snow, so shes gonna never gonna see the snow, she has a 3.1L v6 but im thinking bout changing her to a 305, right now im just looking for the best 305 motor deal for my baby. but for now i got to fix a bunch of stuff on her like the rear brake liines and tuneup and also fixing the rust on the underside and body pannels. its a fight i think im losing i need help!
i got my 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula Ws6 when i was 14, i was a freshman. It was my dads but he wrecked it i believe it was 2003. He asked me if I wanted to keep it, I said "YES SIR" and he replied "well if your fix it up its yours" I started with the frame and front support and got all the body panels for it, and got her running in my junior year, it had a leaking intake and damaged oil pan with a non op fuel pump. it stayed on jack stands until i graduated. I got it rolling a few moths after i graduated......I had to save alot of my petty highschool kid money to buy tubular a arms and a steering rebuild kit and new front formula wheels and billstien struts and schocks. I've been driving her ever since. shes all painted up and nice now .......currently saving up for a LS2/4l60E swap.

YES actually graduated in 1985. My mom gave me her 1985 Camaro berlinetta for graduation. Wow sure miss that car. I beat it to heck and eventually sold it. I know its not third gen but my first car was a 75 firebird. Wrapped it around a telephone pole playn around in an alley in south side of chicago. Sure wished i still had that too. Now i know better. I THINK!

My first car was an '82 Firebird that I bought my senior year in high school (Dec. 11th, 1989). I still have it today. It was a nice car when I bought it but it's come a LONG way since then. There's not too many people who can say they still have their first car after that amount of time.
My goal was to own and drive a third gen to high school at least ONE day, and it happened. Got my car in march of 09. Drove it for the last month and a half of high school so yeah, i had one but just barely.
Got my Z in 1990. Ran it, rebuilt it over the first winter after 305 turned out to be running on 6 cylinders. 350-5-spd but ran it with the stock ecm, so it ran not so good. Still have it after dragging it from Chicago to AZ to MO, and still not running yet, but the dream never dies and I will not sell until I drive it at least once down the track with the front wheels dangling to the 60'.
Had 2 birds since then as well where is where the Z's funding all went. That and a couple cycle wrecks.
Umm, got mine in.. idk. haha.
I was fourteen, found a IROC in the classifieds, asked my parents if we could take a look, my dad saw it.. loved it. Lol. Bought it for me. Which he really bought it cause he liked it. But he's a truck driver and I'm the only one who drives it.
It broke down, got it fixed in 08. (my sophomore year) The first week of school I drove thee Hyundai! and then after that I got to drive the maro. And then! It broke down once again in November, but I got it back the sunday before the last week of school. And monday morning, everyone was like, omg.. He got his car back, and the people who were just getting their licenses were like, omg did you get a new car.. i was like.. no actually it's old.. very. But thanks anywaysss. Then the next Friday after school, which I bailed early out of. I left and was headed straight for the beach to spend the weekend! It was great.
annddd. There's no burning rubber in our school parking lot. One guy did it in his 80's model Suburban.. SUBURBAN. and Couldn't drive to school for like.. a month. It's incredibly stupid.
And I'm currently driving my car.. nowhere. cause I have no money and no gas. Lol.
Ah........
High school. Yes I bought one my senior year. It was a beat up 85 IROC. I bought the car to put the engine and drivetrain in my 76 Nova hatchback. I ended up loving the camaro, and selling the nova. I always had high hopes to fix it up, but I sold that one too. Now im 32 and awaiting delivery of my "new" 85 Z28! Its a real crapper that will require replacement of all the body panels, but I am better equiped these days to do this stuff. I can't wait! It will be a longtime project for sure since I am just starting my second marriage, and I have to keep the new wife happy and make the new house payments. The good news is she is a former 3rd genner as well, so I have her blessing. I remmember the 3rd gens being the bad *** car of my day. The GTA was the bomb in my hometown! When I went to go look at my "new" car and I sat in it, it all came back how much I have missed the camaro. I am really excited because this one is a t top car, I always wanted one. It will be a pain cause I really want this car to handle well, and I know the t-tops offer less chassis stiffness, and I am sure they leak. I dont care I just want another one. Only bad part is I have to sell my off-road jeep to fund the repair of this car. I still cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!
I made payments on my 1s 3rd gen two months before I turned 16 to my uncle who sold me the car. It was an a fully loaded 84 Trains Am. I loved the car but wrecked it 10 months later then after I let the scrap yard have it I purchased an 83 trans am that had no title that I could have used to fix my 84
I got my Camaro when I was 16 and still have it 16 years later. It has changed completely from what it was. Stock v-6 5 speed car to a 680 HP hi 9 second street car. Wish I had it this way back in HS.
I sure did. It was my senior year, i was still doing some body work at the time school started and by around october i started driving it undone, painted but undone. i had the stock GTA hood on, and no spoiler. By december, i put the ram air hood on and the wrap around spoiler, i was still rockin the gta rims and by around june i was on 15x10 in the back and 15x4 up front.
I was the kid with the fastest car in my highschool, there was a kid with a honda s2000, and a civic with a engine swap and a 5.0 mustang fox body, they were all in the mid to low 14 second range while i was still trapping low 13s, fast enough for a high school kid.

My first car a still my car is a 1990 Camaro RS. I got it when I turned 16 before I got my temps. It is only a 305 auto but still a great first car for a high school kid!
Got an 88 Camaro, first car. Have yet to drive it to school, month and a half till my junior year starts.Still working on it, going in to paint in 2 weeks or so. Everyone that has seen the car loves it, even if its a little 6. Only a few other third gens in highschool but they treat them like its just another car. Most everyone else at school drives a jacked up truck or are riceburners.
In my time a 3rd gen was out of the average High School budget. If you had a Camaro or Firebird it was a 70's model. I used to skim the classifieds for used ones. At the time the "cheap" ones were the 82-84 Firebirds. They averaged around $4K (alot at the time). Prices went up from there. When I got my license I drooled over the new Formula Firebirds.
I had 2 third gens in high school. 1991 Firebird with a V6 and 1987 Trans Am GTA with a 355. Wrecked the 87 GTA and it was basicly totaled and still drove it. All whole suspension and drivetrain got taken out and put in my 1991 Firebird. Now, the motor is locked up.

I'm 16 and I just finished my sophomore/junior year (i was moved up a grade) and I bought my 89 RS from my dad a month or two ago for about $800.
dont have my license or even my permit yet, but its fun to look at and rev, and im working at a Corvette shop (Corvettes of Auburn) to build up some money to fix up the engine a little.
pretty much stock all around, manual trans, 305, ect.
working on designing and fabricating door hinges (no, not lambo or suicide) and getting the money to eventually replace the engine with either a stock 305, since the block is really rusty, or a 350 because i can. insurance is gonna suck either way
i actually bought mine the beginning of my junior year, drove it most of the year and then in march wasnt paying attention to the little patch of gravel on the road when i banked a turn and the car went through a giant wooden sign haha.
so it has now turned into my little project, though i did just change the entire front clip out. bought the original car for 500 and the parts car for 450. overall still not doing to bad
I did i bought mine in 1996 it was a black GTA 1988 it was great i was only 15 andmy dad help me buy it but i started to work and paid it off myself i had it thought high school lets just say the city has alot of my money lol. ive learned so much driving styles in that car it was great i ended up selling it for a really good price i did alot of upgrades and after i sold it i wanted a camaro i just like the frount ends better so now i have mine almost 5 yrs later it when i bought my 91 RS it has come along way now so ivealways kinda had a thirdgen around
my junior year i had a 1992 rs 5.o auto hardtop, then i sold it to get a 1992 z28 5.7l. the z28 was a lemon an im currently in the process of fixing it, but i bought another 1991 rs 5.0 5 speed till i an fix the z28
im still in high school I'm going into my senior year i got my first third gen when i was in 10th grade it was a red 85 trans am i ended up wrecking it the next year but then i came across an 87 tpi trans am and it was in rough shape so i started workin on it and since then its come together quite nicely i changed it over to a 5speed that's probably the most major thing i've done to it but yea i love third gens and hopefully i'll be able to not total this one the 85 the 87
i'm going into my senior year. i bought my 86 camaro on 4/1/09 for $500 and i'm currently in the process of fixing it up. the motor blew on 7/11/09 and i'm hoping to have another in for the start of senior year
Ya i had one and I had and still have a 92 bird v6 everything manual with 207000 on the clock now. Bought it back in july 06 just before my senior year for $500. It wasnt the prettiest looking thing with surface rust over the rear quarters and the typical gm paint peal but it ran good and was otherwise well taken car of. I did leave a few marks in the parking lot but by far didnt have the fastest car. I got a 90 bird 6 months later thats just a rolling chassis but there was no way that i could pass up FREE!!!! I eventually plan on putting in a 383 but that probably wont be til after i get out of collage. As long as I can lift the front tires and send all these little imports home crying Ill be happy.
I had an 86' IROC 305 4BBL when I was 15 (1996). I was definitely not fast, but I thought it was at the time. Made all the typical mistakes on that car so I knew better for the next one. The car was rear-ended and totalled in 1999 and the insurance money covered what I had into it plus a little more.
Bought my 89' GTA my senior year (1999) and I still have it. I'm in the middle of restoring it, doing all the things I wanted to do to it back then but didn't have the $ (crate engine, headers, suspension, etc.). Came close to selling it a couple of times, but never could do it. Glad I didn't.
well i got my 85 ta with 305 carb in my junior year and that thing couldnt squack tires on gravel so in my senior year i pulled that thing into the shop class to swap the motor and a guy beside me pulled in his 81 mustang to replace the motor. he got a brand new crate engine (damn rich kids) and i pulled my motor out of an old k20 and all he did was trash talk my car so i made a bet with him that on the last day of school i would race him. so wen that day came i just utterly spanked him to were he wouldnt even finish the race and went home. last i heard he sold the car saying it was a pos and 2 slow, and my ta is still sittin in my garage just laughing at him
I'm currently in high school and just bought a 91 RS. there's a senior that has a 98 Z28 auto that runs 10's. when I'm gonna be a senior though, I'll have the fastest car. I messed up my freshman year so I'm gonna be a junior right now. still though, that camaro is the fastest, it's all a bunch of riced out hondas with huge fart cannons that are like 100 decibels loud at idle and they try to drive fast but only manage like 15 in the parking lot with full throttle, I've taken my dad's cruiser to school before and i've kicked all of the little ricers @$$'s
Never went to high school but when I was 17 I had a 82 berlinetta. It lasted a month or so before the 305 motor went. Sold her on the cheap since I had no place to work on it. No pics but who cares lol.
I had wanted a thirdgen since I was like 10 years old. Freshman year I got a job delivering pizzas and eventually had enough to buy my 86 IROC. It wasnt my daily driver to high school because it barely ran when I bought it. By senior year I drove it all the time and sadly got no respect for it. No one at my school was into the muscle they all thought rusty hondas were cooler. Whatever, I love my car!
hey I have a 1990 camaro rs near perfect. I'm currently in high school going into my junior year I have the nicest car in school, sry but I don't count mustangs as cars, i don't have any pics here but you can see it at http://m.myspace.com/pictures/pictur...lbumid=1694852 sry its the website i've uploaded them to so far
