I think I over did it a little if you go a little thicker on the paint like 60 / 40 you should be ok. I just finished the front clip and the paint laid down perfect at that ratio. Plastic was no problem. I did use a plastic primer but only because it was white and took my coats down to 4. I haven't been able to test the durability of this paint yet and I hope the white dosen't yellow on me.
Black over maroon I think would be perfect. I wish I would have went blue but I have a few body issues I was trying to cover up.
As far as wet sanding I started with 400 up to 800 I will be doing 2 more coats with 1000 and 1500 once winter is over then the final polish and buffing stage when the car is completely put back together. I was pretty agressive about getting the car smooth for each coat but white is pretty forgiving. I am not sure how black will react to aggressive sanding. Once you get the potato peel smell you doing it right.
Yes after each coat I cleaned the car with mineral spirits but make sure it is dry or the paint will flash on you a look crappy. Hope this helps a little. Let me know if I can help with anything else. I don't have the experience with black so it may work a little different.

Thank you, Yes black might kill me, but ILL make sure I take a few days to do it.
thinking about doing my 86 camaro in this method since its chipped already. if i do it in a few months the common theme is to go with brightside and what about primer could one use kilz household type?
Not sure about the bright side, I don't have any experience with it. I don't think you need any primer. However using primer may produce better results because you can get the surface perfectly flat. I am sure you have this web site but if you don't it offers some great tips to get started. http://rollyourcar.com/aboutus.aspx

yeah they shook it up real good the bubbles were everywere but i didnt use it until 2 or 3 weeks later witch let the paint sit. this is only gonna be a problem when you roll, i went with spray w/ the detailler just to try it and no issues it came out looking awesome. The only thing i didnt like was my inability to sand down the car right so now im doing 320 grit on the whole body dry sanding by the way. This i think should give me less sandpaper lines. Guys i went with 100 psi on my compressor in case your wondering. If enyone has eny suggestions to make my spraying easier please tell me as im going to do only two coats. oohh and get good filters as i almost had issus with that to much condensation...Ask if enything else
Well I got the carpet in and front seats are in and those 30th annvis seats out of a 97 camaro feel a whole lot better then the original seats. Im going to buy the paint and ms to mix and rollers and use my wing as a tester. Will try this wednesday and see how it will come out. Will wet sand between coats and do a 60/40 mix also. WIll take before and after pics.

OK, I bought everything I need to do the car, it came to around $75 for everything but still beats a $3000 paint job, but the weather isnt helping much. 32degrees in the garage. Fired up the propane tropedo heater and was trying to at least get the inside of the garage over 75 degrees but the problem is maintaining that. $50 paint job but propane tank is $17.95 and would need at least 12 to 17 hrs of work time to get the car started and done within a span of 3 to 4 days. The weather man is saying 40's 50's next wk so will do the wing test next wk, but for now I got a nice size sheet of metal which will mess with in the house in the next couple of days and see how that comes out. Will lean it at a 80 degrees to see if the paint wont run like when I do the sides of the car. My goal is to start the entire car at the end of the month or the start of april, but will do prep work in the mean time. Will keep posted.
alternative idea here:
has anybody tried using the tremclad/rustoleum paint thinned way out and spray it on properly? i went out and bought a $5 electric paint gun (why not try, hey if it works...) that im gonna try, but if not has anybody had any success with using it in a proper spray gun? this one came with a rather large nozzle so i don't think i'll have a problem with the paint being too thick
I've seen a couple of cars on the original moparts thread sprayed with rusto. They looked real good. This is the way I look at it, if I'm gonna go through the process of taping off the entire car and spraying it, I'm gonna use automotive paint. I'm pretty happy with my rolled on job.
The people on pennocks Fiero board have been doing the rusto on the Fiero which the whole body except the hood and rear deck is urethane and they have had some really nice results. I have a 92 RS that the paint is fading and the clear is chipping so I will be doing a spray job but that is my comfort zone but the roll on is pretty nice.
i dont know if its just where i am or if my local suppliers are crooks, but up here im looking at hundreds of dollars for actual automotive paint, plus primer. iv already exhausted my budget so any money saved is fine by me, really i just want sum paint on my car and i dont care how it gets there, my strength is drivetrain and this is my first bodywork attempt
