martin senour paints??????

i was told that martin senour makes a great paint for resonable prices. i have a couple paint stores that sell dupont paint and one that sells house of kolor and ppg in my area. i was wondering how the MS compares to all other brands of paint in both price and quality. is the paint good for noobs? and is the price saving at the cost of quality? should i look in to it more or forget the idea of cheap napa paint?

Re: martin senour paints??????

Martin Senour is NAPA's name for Sherman Williams. They have some great paint and some crappy stuff just like PPG and the rest. I am planning on using the Cross Fire 5.0 base clear on my car, but I also have woked for NAPA for 13 years. Google Kustom Classics of FT Worth, they are one of my paint customers and they do some very hi end cars.

Re: martin senour paints??????

i am just looking for a paint that will look nice and last for a long time. this will be my first time shooting paint so i dont need the most expensive or best but a good quality base coat clear coat system seam ideal. do you think i would be better off going with martin senour or is one of the other brands a better choice? can i get the same quality with MS paint as with PPG for a lower cost?

Re: martin senour paints??????

If it were me I'd stay away from napa paint. I recently took over management of small shop here, they were using napa paint. I priced a quart of silver paint for my TA Napa wanted 111.00 for the quart and my dupont dealer only wanted 82.50 for the same color. IMO dupont is a better paint than that south of the border Martin Senior stuff. It's really more of a personal preferance thing I guess, but I don't like Martin Senour. It's not as user friendly as dupont is. BTW, you could always use Nason paint, it's duponts cheaper paint line, but the clear won't hold up as long as duponts top line clear. Just my 2 cents.

Re: martin senour paints??????

The quality of a paint job is in the preperation. I you can read the directions on the label and have a good store to mix the paint and make recomendations on the correct thinners you will do fine. Cross Fire is a mid level single stage paint. There is a 2 stage Cross Fire version, is is more expensive.

The key to doing a good job is to have someone who you can trust to make the right decisions on which paint to use (thinners, sealers, primer).

Re: martin senour paints??????

i know the guy at one of the paint shops in my area knows what to use and is very willing to help. he recomended a dupont paint. but i have not been to the local napa. i guess i will just have to see if the guy at napa knows what he is talking about and see if there is a major price differece. thanks guys!!!

Re: martin senour paints??????

it really dont matter what kind of base you put down....as long as its the color you like..........ive used pgg deltron and love it......but try some rubber seal and you will love it: sprays better than ppg, lays out slicker, dont run near as bad

The Martin Senour Napa crossfire single stage urethanes and clears are very good quality. It is a big name paint.
