If the paint isn't cracked anywhere, you can get away with a light sand with 800 grit.If the paint is cracked, you can easily take all the paint off with a d/a and 150 grit paper

Yes, I had cracks and 10,000 layers of paint on my car.. I used a 150 grit wheel attached to My power drill ( Not Battery operated) and one for my variable speed Wheel Grinder, take your time on that one, I hope you dont have any Cracks... I would use the electric palm sander.. the two tools I mentioned got alittle scary when you get into groves. plus give too muc pressure you may eat a hole into your bumper!.... the fog light holes I had to sand By hand..

Re: how to remove the paint of a front bumper??

One caution - don't use chemical paint stripper on urethane. I got a free urethane license plate cover for my Corvette. It had about 6 different coats of paint that were caked in the "C O R V E T T E" letters, so I wanted to strip it down before painting to match my car. Sanding was taking forever, so I used paint stripper. It took the paint off all right, but it also deformed the heck out of the urethane. Since I had gotten the part for free, and it wasn't in very good shape to begin with, I chalked it up to a cheap lesson in case I ever had to strip a urethane part that actually was valuable.

I thought there was something, maybe SEM bumper stripper? That is safe for use on our bumpers. I think I remember seeing it mentioned on here b4

Re: how to remove the paint of a front bumper??

I was just using the regular paint stripper from Home Depot. Good to know that there is a urethane-safe stripper.
