Really need Help on prep, my car before painting
Hi there...
I really need some help here on how to prepare my car for paint shop.
I have talked to a car painter here and they could paint my car 26.may
I have bought all the base coat of painting and clear coat so the car painter is JUST going to spray all the car if my prepare work is good.
I am new to this preparing stuff but have READ a lot about it. I even have the book they use on the schools to become car painters...lol
My car looks like this now:
As you can see there is a little bit work...
I have sanded most of the car with 180grit paper. Dry sanding...
There are a lot of rock chips on the car, and some small rust spots that I have removed and taken care of.
I am wondering alot about this sanding process at my car. Everybody is talking about it will take so much time and blablabla...I agree to that.
But serious, Is preparing a car for painting that hard???...I am only going to paint my car on the outside. Not on the inside. The car paint was OK before but since I have changed my Sport Coupe in to a Z28 I want to repaint it.
I want to show you some pictures of what I have done:
The first thing I fixed was the ground effects:
I sprayed PPG Surfacer D8020 on them and it turned out OK.
But what to do next??...I tried to sand them for about 4hours with 180grit on a sanding block and turned out good but many spots is through the filler, and some small spots are like this:
As you can see on this surface there is a spot in the middle that is darker filler color. What to do here?...To block sand until it is gone???
Or to Use something called bondo to fix it???
I know that if I sand this spot more down it will go away after MANY hours, but is that really necessary??
The next thing i did on my car was my front bumper cover:
This was more difficult to sand because I can't use a sanding block here beacuse the surfaces are very soft and is not flat anywhere almost.
What to do to sand this one?..I used my hand and wet-sand this with 400grit paper. Turned out good I think but what will happen when paint comes on if i just used my hand when sanding???
And how to sand something like this:
Inside the blinker hole, I will get problem sanding. I need to sand because the paint would not stick or am I wrong??...
I really need some help here guys. PLEEEEASE help me
You can just respond on this thread or feel free to PM me with tips.
I need all the advice I can get, cause here are no car painters living near me...
Thanks for reading this thread
