its t top , i'm doing the door jams and back hatch area also . so there is now more red paint showing . i have a gallon of super jet black and 1 gallon of clear. aslo how many coats of clear should i use. was thinking og getting another gallon of clear .

I would guess you are talking base / clear?
If so, thats plenty. Are you planning to sand and buff the clear?

one gallon of base will be enough, and one gallon of clear will be enough, Id go 3-4 coats of base (only cuz your doing a color change with no sealer) and 3-4 coats of clear.

1 gallon is more than enough, I painted my Silverado extended cab 2 base 3 clear and i had little left over

This is what I bought to paint my entire car. It was a slight color change from the stock teal color. There was virtually no body work that needed to be done.

yes i'm planning to sand a buff clear. but that brings another question. how long do i have to wait for the clear to dry to sand/buff ?

how flat do you want your paint job. is this going to be a show car or daily driver. If is going to be a show car i would spray on 2 good coats of clear than knock the the orange peal with some 320 or 400 grit sand paper. the go over that with 2 or 3 cross coats than buff should be super smooth. if just a daily driver go with 3 cross coats. as for how long before you can buff. will you be able to bake it. if can bake it you should be able to buff it in a day or so or when ever the paint is fully cooled. if you don't bake it. probably 2 or 3 days i would guess. just so it is not tacky at all. It takes a long time for paint to full cure. you don't want to wait to long as the clear gets fully cured it gets harder and as it gets harder it will get harder to buff. If you have not ever buffed before make sure you follow the directions with the pad and the compound. You will not want to get your fresh paint to hot. run your buffer slow with light pressure.
