I just bought a pair of door opening weatherstrips for my car. My question is, is a weatherstriping sealer/silicone something that definetly has to be used or will they seal fine without it?
There is a weatherstrip adhesive made by 3M. I have looked at the weatherstrip on mine trying to determine if it will be destryoed during removal for painting but can not tell if all of it is free of adhesive or not. Along the door edge I do not think it is glued but up near the top where the material is larger and thicker I am not sure.
I just installed mine about a week ago and I only used adhesive on the ends at the tops of the doors. I used the 3M weatherstrip adhesive. It's yellow but it comes in a black tube.

Nope, none that I know of. I drove the car about 100 miles today. It's the first time it's left the driveway since May and I just replaced ALL of the weatherstripping on the car. It's 1000 times tighter than it was before. The doors shut solid with no more rattling.
