Let's see.....Ideas.....

Where the 2 "bulges" to the sides are, at the rear...Blend those into the front..

Use 91/92 Z28 scoops to replace the IROC louvers?

Get a pair of 4th Firebird hoods inserts, and create heat extractors in those 2 indention?

the only reason i liked that hood was becasue it still had louvers are you gonna keep the shape of the hood. IMO it would look cool to take off the side vents and make it more like a standard cowl

Re: One of a kind hood im making...

when you say 2009 zr1 do you mean supercharger under glass? cuz i think the holes you cut are two small to pull that off i think it would look good if you got some of those split scoops from the early third gen z28s

Re: One of a kind hood im making...

Well i had many thoghts and can picture different things from what you said bout the corvette:

I was thinking about two big turbo chargers sticking up out of the hood or maybe two small hood scoops like on this pontiac. http://www.americandreamcars.com/1974firebird.jpg (idk i really like this look on a blue firebird i saw once)

Far as the corvette idea goes you could put two pieces of lexan glass or w.e on there to see w.e you have in there at that point in time or you could vut out the entire section there and fit in a bigger "window"

oh and i also just thought about how you could put something like this coming out the top
http://hotrodalley.tripod.com/sitebu.../velocitya.jpg
though i dont think it would look to great with the hood.

idk the possibilities are endless if you like any of my ideas even a little bit let me know but this post is already long enough

I looks interesting thus far. Consider cutting open the "vents" on the side and putting a fine mesh within them. Do you have any better pics of it ?

its gonna be smoked lexan in the holes so you can see the motor...

the side vents i already made functional and they are meshed already to get all the hot air from all the turbo piping out of there the cowl is open in the back to also help with heat discharge...

tomorrow im gonna paint the new hinges i got back from the blaster and paint the underside of the hood, put it on the car cut out the hood lock in it and fit it on the car...then take it off and paint the top...eta...the 20th hopefully for out local third gen cruize...

Maybe filling in the side vents might make it look cooler? I just never liked them but I like the idea you are going with on that hood. Some badass valve covers will be sweet to look at. Maybe fabricated covers.

May run some type of intake tubes out of the holes. hotwheels style with the big W shape or just small velocity stacks, that tube into a home built air cleaner that is shown off through the clear windows.

for now its gonna stay mesh due to my time constraints...the locks are on i just did them today after work..pickin up some lexan tomorrow..

and as for the people asking about the grile, there is none there, its all cut out custom and there is no middle of teh steel bumper support, car runs a lot cooler and well i needed sumwhere to put my intercooler....so thats whats gonna fill that hole, a 4 inch wide intercooler.

Re: One of a kind hood im making...

well since you have went this far maybe try making an air box on the underside and cover the holes with a forward facing cowl and make a functioning custom ram air not to mention it could look pretty mean going down the track you can do just about anything with fibreglass and bondo and it could help get more air to that beautiful engine you got goin on keep up the good work looks realy nice

Re: One of a kind hood im making...

I dont know... I never liked the daytona hood. Maybe if you cut the holes on the sides to make them one big slot? That would look better with the lexan in them... Either way, good luck!

Re: One of a kind hood im making...

what do you mean localy like at a scrap yard cause the ones here are picked dry or a wreck can you get any other hoods for an 85 T/A all it has to do is fit i love to fiberglass and i have a stock hood so i have all the louvers and dont need em if you find the same hood so if the price is good id like to find one can anyone help? lookin for used not new so paint dosent matter but minimal rust and hopefuly no dings but just need the hood and plan to hood pin so the flap latch and hinges dont matter but a question i have heard that it is next to impossiable to get a dent out of the spine hood and make it fit riight again is there any truth to that and the drver sits about a half inch above the light when they are down but the passenger side is flush and i checked the alignment of the lights and they are all squared up so how much would it cost professionaly to have it done or could i do it if i went and got a good hammer and dolly set
thanks

hammer and dolly would work good. try and get some body spoons too. they look like metal spatulas. the spoons will help with the hard to reach places. also, wrap the dollies and spoons in a couple layers of masking tape to keep them from gouging the metal of the hood.

I Think personally i would keep cutting. I would cut out the bar down the middle and just put a big piece of clear lexan over the entire opening so you get a clear look at most of the engine a la Ferrari. Although I think that may possibly look better on a TPI engine, but none the less it may look cool.

Take your time and do it right the first time. Practice makes perfect. But you also have to consider if it would just be easier to bondo over the dent and just sand it smooth. Try both.

doin it right is not a problem honestly i love every minet im in the garage workin on my car tonight ill try to get some pictures and show you but the hood is actualy warped on the driver side its to high i thought the dent down the spine kinda warped the hood so its flush on the passanger side but the hood sits abbout a hlaf inch above the driver side light would a hammer and dolly still get it i was hopin fix the spine it would kinda fix my problem or am i gonna have to try bending the braces on the underside I havent yet had to much metal experience on cars and i knew i wouldent get everything out with the hammer and dolly but ive got about a gal and ahalf of bond on reserve at all times its amazing stuff but im turnin to people with the same type car to hopefuly help and already has ALOT

Not my cup of tea. If you're going to show off an engine with a window in your hood, it better be some badass looking engine. So far I don't see it.

I don't think he ment it to be offensive, it's just that in it's current state it isn't anything impressive to look at, just looks like your basic carbed small block with some parts painted what appears to be pontiac blue.. I'm sure it will look much better in the future after your turbo project is completed, just not really much to look at as it sits right now.

well if you look back i did comment on the hood and dude Ive only been here for a week ve got 10 posts sorry i hijacked his fourm even though people are still talking about his hood around us i just got some advice on my own hood in a hood fourm kinda seems logical right and its just everything i have to do to my car is custom because not all of us are spoiled and can spend 1000s of dollars on our cars at one time i dont care how much you have in you car i bought mine for 1000 bucks and have done what i can probably 1000 in it and i have already had an offer for 4 grand so i coundent give a **** less all im saying is appreciate the work the guy has done everything on my car is one of a kind, handmade because some parts are expensive and by the profit i could make off of it now and the one i WILL make in the future just shows what custom work can do to a cars value so u bolt on your oem/replacement parts on you car that there is a chance someone has the same exact thing but when its custom you know that is the only thing just like that thats worth more than all your money
