Back hatch 86' sport coupe problem

alright so when i bought my camaro it didnt come with any outside keys, just the one for the ignition. the back hatch was working when i first got it, but the switch no longer un locks it. is there another way to open the back hatch without using a key and the button on the inside? cause i want to put in a diffrent lock so this cannot happen again, but i cant open it.

Re: Back hatch 86' sport coupe problem

Crawl into the back hatch area. Pop out the hatch light. The hatch release solenoid is visible through the hole, it is silver in color. Unscrew the 10mm screw that attaches it to the pull-down unit and remove it. Once off you'll see a square hole. There is a folded tab that the solenoid pulls to open the latch. Push it counter-clockwise and it will release the latch.
