Went to a local supplier and talked about picking up some paint for my RS and this is what I got. What do you guys think? Brand is DuPont BC/CC. This will be my first time ever painting a car....feeling ambitious. They put 2 different types of clear coat on there to let me pick, one is supposedly "top notch" and other other is "good". They said this should be enough for 2 coats of color. How many coats of clear do I want? There is only 2 qts of primer (1 for the metal fenders and 1 for the front/back plastic bumpers) because they said I'd want to prime over my green panels that I got from another car, but should be okay painting over the factory red paint once I sand it down without primer. Hi. That is ok, but if you are a first time painter try the Smartshoppers web site. They only have some colors, but the Kirker products are very reasonable. I buy clears and primer from them if they don't have the color I want. It won't cost so much if you have to redo parts!

I wish I knew more about Dupont products, we use PPG at the shop. The one thing I don't see is a sealer, unless you are using the speedprime as a sealer but it looks like a single part product... no hardner. Are they telling you to prime the blue and just paint over the red? You're doing it red again I guess. I would think they would always recommend a sealer on the whole car before you put any color on. It just doesn't seem right to me. And if you're doing the car with bumpers, gfx, mirrors and everything else removed you may wish you had a full gallon of color. I used more than I thought I would doing all the small stuff.

They told me to prime over the teal then lay color over that, and lay color right over the red. Lots of sanding on both of course. They said I wouldn't need a sealer.

WOW!!!! That's ALOT for paint supplies. I did a complete color change on my car last weekend and everything including sand paper, paint, hardener, primer, etc... was less then $100. But then again I used single stage enamel.

Here is a list of what paint materials I used. Car is black/red with a 3/8" silver stripe between them. Everything was repainted including jams and engine bay. Primer is a filler/sealer (different mix ratio). One or 2 coats primer. Sealer coat. 3 coats color. 3 coats clear. Flex agent added for all plastic parts. A couple of years ago this was about $1000. I just finished my wife's iroc and spent about 1500.00 on materials ,but it was a color change. You should prime your different color parts with a 2k primer , before you lay down your basecoat I would seal the entire car with Chromaseal (it's cheap insurance that nothing funky happens and you'll have better color holdout. And it comes in different shades of gray , so your color will cover faster. If your going to cut and buff the car , I would use three coats of clear (chromaclear 7779s) cuts and buffs like butter ! Also I would 86 the flex additive (don't need it.

being ur frist time to paint a car . don't spend that kinda of money . i have probably painted over 10,000.00 cars . ur wasting ur money because u will make mistake's that will need sanding and buffing after u paint it. buy ur self a single stage red dupont is fine .but u really don't need bc/cc sand it down 320 da or 400 wet and start sparying which is what u will be doing . walk around the car with gun in hand a few time's pulling the trigger and getting a fill for what u will be doing before u strain the paint . let it dry wet sand 1500 and buff . which is what u will be doing regradless if u spend 200.00 or 1500.00 ... just don't tell the paint store lol . if ur thinking ur going to get a professional job ur frist time don't . just take the car to a body shop. kinda harsh but u can learn from my mistake's which is alot cheaper for you> good luck dude .
