I picked this car up today(dirt cheap) its a 91-z,t-top 305/auto.
needs alot of work,runs/drives except theres no OD.So I'm thinking,besides complete int.,a front end and hood,also needs a trans.
Just wondering if anyone had any input on this.
Thanks,Tim

Id probably part it before i got too attached to it.A better question though is..Why did you buy it in the first place?To fix or part out(profit) or just for parts?Id keep the items i want/need most & sell everything else!
I bought it for the new trans. that came with it,that I need for my 89.
Could make quite a profit if I do part it.
IDK,I kinda hate to destroy a car thats overall in good shape(other than the previously mentioned parts) but at the same time,I really don't know if I want yet another money pit?I just pulled it into the driveway about 1 hour ago.
"Destroying" one f-body to save many more can't be all bad.Unless you can find a buyer to take it off your hands as is.I'd part it for profit or sell as is just to get it out of my life(& maybe little to no profit).It's up to you though, but like you said "money pit"!
is the underbody clean? if so heres what I'd do...
find a good 700r4 to swap into it
fix the body
spray it blue... no color looks better on 91-92 camaro's then metallic blue...
no need to rush this one either, if it just sits for a little bit its better then becoming a soup can...

Yeah man,the entire body has really no rust other than a couple very small surface spots.
Maybe I'll put it on the back burner for now,and get my bird back up to par.
oh yeah,forgot to mention that it came with nice glass t-tops too.
I say save it! It's bad enough someone put it through the torture of painting the GFX black
maybe spread the word around that you'll let it go to a good home if someone is interested in repairing it. otherwise hang on to it and get the pieces together a little at a time, then at least you can sell it as a whole car to ensure it lives on.
Man if it was closer to me i would take it off your hands. If you dont want do go through the trouble to fix it put it forsale cheap, somone out there is looking for a project.

If it's structurally sound and you decide to part it out just make sure the body goes to a good home. There are too many rusty ones on the road that could use a good shell.
If it was me I'd throw a tarp over it and start collecting parts. Put it back together. Even if it takes awhile.
It all depends on what you paid for it I guess. Also what work you really want to put into it. If you find a jk 700-r4 for cheap, throw it in there, make a profit, you might make someone's day. Weigh your options it might be more profitable to part it out.
I am starting to realize that now is the time to restore and rebuild 3rd gen's.
Just like every other generation of car, they get crushed, smashed, and harder to find parts.
I am just glad I have 10 years of models to deal with instead of 3 !!
I want to find one of those 91-92 front bumper covers for my ride! I am going to do the same thing as you did restoring that GTA with my plain jane 88 Firebird. I am gonna mix and match body parts.
Oh, and I am looking for unwanted parts too. PM me please.
And BTW..... I am glad you decided to keep the Camaro.
its got a lot of primer on it. i would sand down a fender and check to see if some one is covering something up. but itf you decide to part it pm me man when you do i need a lot of parts for my bird and camaro.

ok people,heres a little update.
I now have complete int. panels,have seatbelts on the way.
The ext. is only lacking a driverside fender.
I have managed to locate the hood and front bumper w/chin spoiler in less than a month!
Car is coming together faster than I thought.
IMHO unless the car is completely wracked to the point where it needs to go on a frame rack, or the quarter panels are rusted extremely bad, its worth saving. And even then, if you're gonna do any kind of tubbing, the quarters might not even be a big deal.
Rust is just a opportunity to really customize your sheet metal.
Big rust hole in the firewall? Smooth the whole firewall.
Big rust hole in your floor pan? Run a trick, side exit exhaust, and build your floor pan over it.
Rusted wheel wells? Consider mini tubbing that thing. A nice radius on your wheel wells looks 100X better than the angular stock pieces anyways.
Nice. That is my favorite body style of Camaro. I can wait to see pictures of her all together.
Thanks,I hope this car turns out at least half as nice as Phishman92's car.
and Mathius,no major damage or rust on this car at all.That played a major role in the SAVING of this car.
Heres a few pics of todays status.
She's looking quite colorful! White,red,green and black!
Kinda reminds me of that old frog in a blender joke! lol
BTW folks,anyone have donations?
I need a d/s fender, black seats,carpet,doorpanels,dashpad,console shiftplate,headliner and foglights.
So if anyone has this stuff and reads this thread,drop me a line

See, it's coming together! I would recommend white for the paint, it hides body work better....
Before you assemble the car, spray the inner parts (bottom and sides of the hood, hinges, inside fenders, fender lips, edges of the nose, under ground effects, etc... ) that way you can bolt it all together and when it's complete, all you have to do is spray the exterior.

haha!You read my mind! Those steps are all going to take place including the white paint!
I also plan on stripping/polishing the wheels and repainting the inserts white as well.

The Camaro is my obsessions;
That I shall ALWAYS want!
It maketh me burnout on black pavements;
It leadeth me down the busy freeways;
It restoreth my soul.
It leadeth me in the path of quickness;
For its name sake.
Yeah, though I drive through the valley of RICE,
I shall fear no turbo, for torque art with me!
Thy rod and thy piston, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a track for me.
In the presence of mine enemies;
Thou hast anointed my bearings with oil;
My car overpowers.
Surely traction and victory shall follow me
All the days of my life.
And I shall dwell in the house of the Chevrolet\
Forever and EVER! Amen.
Sorry for the delay folks,I have been very busy with this car.
The bad trans. in the car has now been rebuilt by me and finally got it installed today and took it for a quick drive around the neighborhood.
Seems to be working good,but don't want to take any long drives in a car with no hood,license plates or insurance!
Guess its time to start bolting on some parts.
I'll see what I can do tom. about some updated pics.
Found my first surprise on the car this afternoon,started sanding and found this nasty little ding on the drivers q/p. I got tired of trying to sand the filler off that kept gumming up my d/a disc paper.The filler resembled rubber cement or something?
Sticky,like someone used filler with no hardener?
Anyway,broke out the good old razorblade and sliced the crap out of there.
Anyway,heres a couple pics.
Nothing that the slidehammer and welder can't take care of in a few minutes time.
Biggest plus is bye-bye nasty filler!!
See, it's coming together! I would recommend white for the paint, it hides body work better....

just a thought..
that's sound advice, i did that and it made everything a lot easier
How was the trans rebuild? Any advice or special tools you reccomend? Keep up the great work!!

ok,heres todays progress,got the nasty ding cleaned up welded the hole for the slide hammer,and sanded both quarters,decklid,and rear bumper.
I then moved up to the front and got the underside of the hood painted along with the d/s fender edge also got some sanding done on the front bumper.
Now I'm kinda thinkin?
Do I want to go totally white or,do I want black headlight buckets,grill and blisters?
Not sure yet. Anyone got opinions?
Heres a few pics of todays progress.(More tomorrow)
Black on White would set it off for sure!!! I can see them knecks poppin already!!

I've got some interior parts that I'd be willing to let go cheap, console & auto shift plate. Not needing too much for them - but I won't be state side 'til mid summer (3-ish months from now)...
I am not a huge fan of white, but it can look ok with the right accent parts. I say no to the black headlight buckets. I think it makes our cars look 80's and less timeless. just my opinion though
Heres todays progress.I got the front completely assm. now just need a little hood/bumper alignment work.
Maybe next weekend she'll be all in primer.
Oh yeah,thanks for the suggestions about the whole blacked out pieces guys,I been viewing numerous white 91-92 z pics on this site,but I am still unsure.
If I do black h/l buckets,I think the grill should also stay black?
Like I said prev.,still undecided.I got at least a week to think about it though.
