my 87 Trans Am

I figured I would toss up a few pics.
We started this last year, and it's been a weekend, after hours type of thing.

Couple pics, I took A LOT of pics, I don't want to bore you with posting 100 pics.
We took the car down to bare metal, painted all the jams, took off all the ground effects.
I bought a new Fiberglass rear spoiler from Hawks (very cool people!)

So this spring, it's going to be fun putting it all back together.

and YES it's candy apple red!

Re: my 87 Trans Am

We shaved the door handles off and shaved the antenna off.

I'm leaving the side moldings off.
Only thing that was not painted was the engine bay. But if and when I deside to yank out my 305 for a 350, I'll tape it all off and paint it black.

Nice job man!

I love that color! I'm a huge fan of red third gens.

It should be fun putting everything back together, and there sure aint no feeling like taking her out for the first time once everything is back in place and looking good.

Can't wait to see more pics

Re: my 87 Trans Am

very much!

Yeah I can post pics fron taking it all apart up until now.

We did find one rust spot (lol yeah I'm honest!) Under the drivers side ground effect on the rear quarter.
I guess just a warning...if someone thought they had a 100% solid car....take a closer look.
We ended up welding up a patch, and made it look brand new again.

Under the rear spoiler:

those were the only rust spots on the car.

Hey, I can dig it. I'll look at every pic you put up. It reminds me of my wife,s GTA 87 but with T-tops like my current project. Maybe a pic of the back part of your subframe connectors, please?

Re: my 87 Trans Am

So just so people know this is a tri coat.
Based with silver metallic. We put 4 coats on.
Then the candy apple red, we put 6 coats of that on to get the color I wanted. (more coats the darker it gets)
Then the clear over that. We put 4 heavy coats of clear on.

We figure we will wetsand and wheel 1 coat off to make it as shiny as we can get it.

Thanks for looking.
My goal is to have a show car.
I'm sorry to say but I like it when I drive by and people stop and look.
Or when I'm at a car show and people come up to me and say WOW, nice car.
That really makes my day.

LOL...you all asked for pics.
Any questions let me know.

Looks good. I remember all the pieces with Lisa's GTA. They take up a lot of room when they are off the car.

Re: my 87 Trans Am

yeah, you don't know all the parts you have until you take it all apart.

And, yeah it took me 2 years to get to be able to paint it. I was thinking about building a motor for it 1st.
But I'm more into the show part of owning this car.
The go part can come later. The 305 runs just fine.

thx for the comments. I can't wait to start driving this car again!
