crossfire hood?

hey guys ive got an 87 iroc. my ex girlfriend gave me her old crossfire hood that we had intended to put on her car, but the hood is in horrible shape, i do bodywork and feel that it is not salvagable at all.
1. do you think a working crossfire hoos, would look good on an 87 iroc?

2. how hard would it be to turn an early Z28 hood into a working crossfire, since i have all the correct brackets and the pop up vents etc

thanks

Re: crossfire hood?

1.) I've got an SMC Z28 (non Crossfire) hood on my 88. It looks ok, but if you know 3rd gens, you can tell something isn't right. The factory hood (flat) was dented beyond repair, so I tossed this one on.

2.) Converting a SMC hood to Crossfire specs wouldn't be too hard. Take off the covers for the scoops, open the area up and mount the flaps. If you search...I'm sure it's been covered before.

However, if your Iroc is TPI, the gain won't be anything. You may get some cooler air into the engine bay, but that air has to go somewhere once it gets in.

Re: crossfire hood?

I LOVE that hood! I say go for it. Here is a pic of mine. Its a 83 z28 but i put the 92 body kit on it.

but as toomany said, you wouldn't gain anything because your air intake is way up front.

Re: crossfire hood?

thanks for the opinions n al guys, i appreciate it, i really like the blisters on the car now, thats why its making it such a hard choice, but seeing your cars definatey helped sway my mind. having a black car, wasnt quite sure that it would look right being one soid color, but seeing the racing stripes etc on them wit that hood is a good idea. maybe ill end up painting them on when shes al ready for paint

Re: crossfire hood?

I own an 82 Pace car with the CFI and hood.I havnt driven my car since 1991,but I do still remember a few things about my good ol days and that was seeing the flaps come up when I would floor it and pass someone.(Plus I had red door edge on the front of flaps so I could see them open).Still have the 82 indy.Had it since I was 16.someday......

Re: crossfire hood?

I gotta admit the 82 INDY pace car is cool. If only I could get mine back on the road. oh well. I got a busted up fiberglass CFI hood too and me and my dad are gonna try to patch it up since the cheapest replacment I found was $530 for a new one.
