New Driver Side Door?

Hey guys I have a "repaired" driver's side door that is full of bondo. If you look at it a certain way you can see how wavy and dented in it was. How hard is it to replace the door? I can get a new door shell pretty cheap but what will I need to do? Do I have to take off and adjust the fender? Thanks for any input.

Re: New Driver Side Door?

i just replaced my drivers door because it was full of mud too but i also did the fender at the same time but not having a fender on the drivers side when you change the door makes it alot easier to adjust the door and gap it. that may be something you wanna look into just pulling the fender too

I'd probably look at the local junkyard, possibly craigslist for a good used one,I'm sure there's one out there for you.

If your door is not rusty, i would skim it with filler and use a straight line sander on it, even if you buy a new door there will most likely be some work to be done anyway! i did my door and it looks straighter than most factory doors. some times a door from another car wont fit the greatest. hope this helps.

Re: New Driver Side Door?

its pretty easy to put on a new door if you know what your doing,

i just did it today and it didn't take long at all.

take the pin out of the bottom and put that half of the hinge on the body then pull the door up and bolt the top on and push the pin threw the bottom.

Re: New Driver Side Door?

I really appreciate the input guys. Well the door has incredible amounts of bondo on it so I'm just going to remove it and put a new one on. The driver side door, fender and hood does not line up well at all so I want to straighten that out. Any other tips on doing that?

Was the car ever in an accident? If it was how bad,and was the frame straightened.

Just trying to figure out why that doors had that kind of damage, and why nothing lines up right now on it.

Re: New Driver Side Door?

Well I know that it was hit on the driver's side. Someone put a new fender on it and bondo'd the hell out of the driver's side door. Carfax showed up clean and it does not have a salvage title or anything. As far as the frame goes it seems straight I don't see any damage to it.

I got the door from some parts car that someone had sitting around here in South Texas. An'85 RS. Straight,rust-free door. Just needs paint.
