Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
black primer, havent seen it too often used as a primer. but more and more for the finish, well thats what i always used it for.
glad to see wet sanding, get it smooth and done right! good work so far.
Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
It's not black primer...it was just really wet when I took that picture. As for smoothness, it's so smooth you almost have to look to be sure you're touching the car. I'm really impressed with how things are moving along.

WOW...WOW...WOW. What a day!! Thursday was the day we sprayed, and what an AMAZING transformation! They shot 4 coats of color, and 3 clear. She'll need a little buffing, but I'll let the pics and video speak for themselves!!

Yes...a VERY good reflection. The car is shiny as...well...I've already gotten one warning.
More pics. We're SO close! I should have her by the end of the week!
Test fitting the spoiler...
PERFECT color match! The hatch is just dusty...
He was putting on the window sweeps and stuff when I left. I've spent the whole day for the last two days over there! And I'm going again tomorrow! I can't stay away...I'm afraid I'll miss something!
Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
Car is looking beautiful dude.
Ahhh this thread reminds me of when i went through all of this, after paint i spent a good 2 to 3 weeks piecing together my car. Had parts in all of my sheds and garages haha. Keep up the good work.

Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
I went back today to show her to hubby (you guys have seen more of her than HE has!!). OMG, she looks AMAZING!! Mirrors, door handles, window sweeps, most ground effects are on and straight, along with the headlight buckets having been cleaned and painted. The gold "Pontiac" is on the headlight, they painted the molding on the hatch glass...all this between yesterday at 3 and today at noon! Frank put new stops on the windows because they were going down too far...he also tracked down an electrical gremlin for me in the lights. An earlier owner had the wrong bulbs in the tail lights which was causing a ground fault. That ground fault was causing lights in my digital dash to mess up...mainly the LCD on the odometer...so you couldn't read the odometer without guessing. Now it appears and works properly.
Now the date has been pushed back to Monday or Tuesday. BUT, that's okay, because he's going to re-adjust the hatch because it bugs HIM. It sticks out just a little further than it should, so he's fixing that, and he's going to go through the fusebox for me and see if he can track down some more electrical gremlins. He's investing in the car because it's turning out better than we'd hoped and he's almost as excited as I am. He knows I'm happy, but he won't let the car go until HE'S happy...and that makes all the difference!!

Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
Wow... thats nice.
Between the quality of work and the dedication to getting it right, not to mention going above and beyond, Ide say you made a VERY good choice on the shop/labor!!! People that do that kind of work that you can trust are getting hard to find these days. Those are the kind of guys that I would drive my car a couple states away to have work on it.
Good luck getting the rest together and I cant wait to she her sitting out in the sun all put together!
J.

Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
A few...I entered her in a show two weeks ago, and we took home a trophy! Not just ANY trophy...
And I have had the badges installed as well, and taken some new photos with them. The car is turning out better than I could have dreamed. The transmission has been rebuilt, I changed the differential oil, and replaced the front universal joint on the driveshaft. I also replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs. I haven't done the interior yet, but it's actually in okay shape aside from the sail panels and driver's seat. That will be the last thing I do.
So that's my latest update. It's been a busy few months with me in Auto Tech school, but it's good for the car!
Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
Wow, I just read through this, and what an amazing transformation! The car looks absolutely GORGEOUS, I see now how much it pays to go with a quality shop! This is what I'd like to do with my car after college, once I've saved up some money. Oh, and congrats on the trophy!
Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
Beautiful car. I'm SOOOO jealous!!!
One question though, and I only ask because you had already mentioned a figure before. How much did all this, minus the a arm and stuff like that, end up costing?
Mine body wise is in a little better, but similar, starting point. I need to have the same type and quality job done to mine. Knowing what it has and should cost will help me keep from getting ripped off.
Re: The New GTA is in paint/body now! (pic heavy!)
Without the rust and dent repair, it would have run me around 3800. There were some assumptions made right off the estimate, like needing the hood reworked. The surprises were the rust and the fender and having to cut the mounting clips off the spoiler.
And thanks!! I'm quite proud of her. She ended up taking Best GM, 1987-Newer in a mid-size show recently, which made it all worth it!!
