Pics of 4th gen spoiler or Z28 high rise on 89 Formula?

My brother and I are getting ready to put his body together on his 89 Formula and get it painted, but the spoiler is crap and he doesn't have the money to spend on a $400 spoiler. I have the tools and skills to mount them on the car, but I don't want to spend the time and money to find out it looks like crap.

I've been searching for like an hour now and can't find any Formulas with these two spoilers, so I decided to post.

Post up suckas!

Please don't put a z-28 high rise spoiler on a bird. It just doesn't belong. I've seen a few birds with the z-28 spoiler and it looks Anyhow a 4th gen spoiler should be interesting. I'm curious myself.

I was just thinking of that because of the car it was styled after.

I don't believe that car ever came stock like that. The 91-92 z-28 high rise spoiler was styled after the Ferrari F-40 not the Firebird. Someone put a camaro spoiler on that old Firebird. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope, that is a 69 Trans Am and that is the factory spoiler on it.

I've never heard that about the F40. The Z28 spoiler is almost identical to the TA spoiler and looks nothing like an F40 spoiler.

High rise... People say they are too narrow for birds, as the Camaro actually has a narrower rear quarters...

Yeah, that's the problem. There are tons of pictures of TAs with them on it, but I can't find a Formy one anywhere.

I dont think it would look good. And if your strapped for cash the JY is your friend i think you should be able to find a nice wing for a decent price. I think 4th gen T/A wings look better on third gens than any stock 3rd gen wing does. Alot of people sell wings on the classifieds also, but i wouldnt pay 400$ for one.

ALso in reference to the f40 and the z28 wing. THe IROC concept car from i wanna say 1989 was modeled after an f40. The z28 wing looks nothing like a f40 wing which is molded to the sides of the car. The z28 wing is just that a wing designed for z28 camaros.

the high rise would look better if you widen it to sit properly on the top of the rear quarters. I had one on my 86 Trans Am but sold it.

I don't really want to go through the trouble of widening one. I think we're going to find an LT1 TA spoiler and go with it. It fits our budget and should look pretty good for now.

are you guys just taking a used 4th gen spoiler and mounting it to a 3rd gen? I'm wanting to do that, just don't know if the installation has any issues?

Yes the factory 4th gen spoiler mounts on a 3rd gen w/ minimal work. You do have to drill new holes to mount the spoiler. MEASURE TWICE, DRILL ONCE.
Also, its best to find an LT1 spoiler vs the LS1 spoiler. The LT1 spoiler will sit flush along the edges. With both, you will have to fill the gaps on the center posts.

EXACTLY!

BUT....Get one from a 93-97 TA, a LT1 car. DO NOT get one from a 98-02 TA, a LS1 car. They won't sit flat.

The LS1 cars have a bit of a "bubble" rise to the hatch, which makes the center 2 posts sit at angles.

The red car in my link has a LT1 wing. It sits perfectly flat. You can see in my pics, that the one on my white GTA, the center 2 posts do not sit flat.
http://s119.photobucket.com/albums/o...202001%20wing/

But to do it right, it requires drilling 2 new holes for mounting & closing the 4 old ones. In other words.....Welding. But it is 110% worth it!

In either case.....You'll hafta extend the center 2 posts down to reach, since they are too short. Mine were extended with layers of plexiglass or Lexan, bonded together. I haven't bothered finishing them, smoothing them out, since I need to get a LT1 wing & transfer them over.

Re: Pics of 4th gen spoiler or Z28 high rise on 89 Formula?

I really don't like the 4th gen wing on 3rd gens. They are too rounded and formula's are more boxy. I really do like the Z28 high rise spoiler on them though... I think they look good. Widening them would be a little better, but 4th gen wing vs z28 wing, I would go for the z28 wing without thinking twice.
