Hey this is gonna sound weird but i remember watching Truck! (When Stacey was on it) and when was showing something about rust removal by using a plastic tub, a battery charger and some chemicals. And when you attached the battery charger to a ground and the part you want to remove rust from and placed it in the tub of chemicals you would have to wait a few hours and the rust would be gone. Am I just dreaming this or is this something that other people use? It would be crazy cool because I have tone of small parts I want to paint and this would be ideal

Not crazy at all. Google "Rust removal electrolysis" and there's a ton of sites that tell you how to do it.

Now if only we could dip our whole cars in this stuff....

I did that when I did a frame off resto on my truck. It does work, I did some pretty big things with it too. Here's a couple of pictures of a set of springs I did:


I ended up having problems with my charger thinking the "battery" was charged and turning off, so I'd have to go reset it every few hours and it was a hassle. It does take a long time though, you could be looking at a day or 2 per part if you do some big parts or run into charging problems. Oh, and the chemical is washing soda (not baking soda), you can get it at shop rite.

You really need to use washing soda, but you CAN use baking soda, it just takes longer.

Dow said it best; better living through chemistry. Just dont boil carb bodies in your wife's new saucepot, that requires some significant spending. Ask my Dad
