Question about Decals

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post a thread like this, but I have a question and I want opinions from experts. (Which everyone here qualifys because you know what you talk about.)

Now is it stupid or pointless to put decals on a car that don't belong to that year. Now I know decals from a different make on another one is stupid, but I was curious if you have the same brand would it be alright?

For example:

Say I wanted to put the Phoenix bird decal from a 70s version on a 1997 Trans Am hood would you think it would be stupid?

I mean in all seriousness I'm asking for an approval if anything. I'm just a kid who's in love with old cars. I feel without the bird on the hood it just does not seem like a Trans Am to me. I'm getting a Trans Am soon and I'm trying to shoot for a more recent year. I have a whole life ahead of me to save money, grow older, and have a 1977 "toy" in the garage and live a seldom life.

Anyways, what do you think? Try to think your reaction if you were in traffic or walking somewhere and you saw a 1997 Trans Am with a 1977 decals on it.

Re: Question about Decals

I doubt that there are to many cars on this site that are factory original. If you like it and think it looks good, go for it. I've thought about doing the same sort of thing.

Re: Question about Decals

It has nothin to do with if it will look good to everyone, Its your car so do what you like. Others opinions are constructive at times, but don't base your decisions on what they like.

Personally i love the 70's styled bird on a 4th gen hood. i want to put one on my 3rd gen!

Now if you go putting v-tec stickers on your car, well.. get ready to be flamed like crazy

Re: Question about Decals

Nothing will look good to EVERYONE. I don't like large bird decals on the newer cars but I do love it on the 70's models. It's your car and you will change things on it, to make it "your own." So I say "DO IT!"

Re: Question about Decals

Every one has an opinion but since it is your car yours is the only opinion that really matters. I personally like truly restored/original and fully stock cars, but I also appreciate street rods, resto mods, and whatever as long as they are well done, so go for it. It would only make a difference to anyone if your car was rare or original low mileage, and i=even then vinyl can always be removed.

I've seen those decals sized to fit you car floating around here somewhere. I like them, then again I grew up watching the Dukes Of Hazzard and Smokey and the Bandit.

Re: Question about Decals

I love the look or better yet the feeling of some one that can trap the essence of old school on the new school. Kind of like I understand, and appreciate everything that has come from old school, because without, there would not be new. (Did this make sense)

I say DO IT.

A lot of people on here with camaro's take the old font style and apply them to their seats, headrests, decals, emblems such as the Z28 and so on.

Re: Question about Decals

I think it would look great depending on what color scheme you go with. I will be painting one on my 3rd gen soon. I just need to finish digitizing the damn bird its very time consuming but will make painting easier when I cut it out on the plotter.

Re: Question about Decals

They also make a 80s style hood bird just like the ones on the sail panels, I have one on my hood and it looks awesome. It came from the 85-87 models Im pretty sure. I never see another car with it around here, and get loads of compliments.
