I just got my new air deflector installed and it hangs so low! Whenever i go down a sketchy parkinglot ramp i heard it grinding and i grinds at my heart to hear my bird making these noises lol. Are these parking lots gunna mess my air deflector up eventually? Can I avoid the grinding somehow i go real slow when i go down them so i dont hit it to hard.

I feel your pain. The one on my car does it too. If I go down a steep driveway I try to hit it at an angle do it's not dead on.
I removed mine as I plan to lower my car 2" and imagine that scrape. Don't worry, I have sufficient cooling to be able to completely remove it without worries.
The scrapes should not mess up the air dam too much but will scratch up the edges a lot. Every once and a while check on it, check the bolts, and make sure everything is as supposed to be. These are pretty strong pieces, mine was the stock one and it lasted over 124k miles without the slightest bend in it(as in bend that was not factory), and all it had was scratches all over it, front and back, but still angled forward like it was supposed to.

my car is sitting on sportlines and scrapes on most speed bumps and my deflector is still there...i would not stress too much about it, nothing going to happen to it other than a few scratches/gouges, its not going to get ripped off or anything.

Did you discard the entire nose of your car, for increased air flow? I have yet to see any 3rd gen have sufficient cooling, with no air dam underneath.
I have had my '91 almost 2 years now and never knew it was even supposed to have an air dam until a year ago and it has never overheated on me... I even had to put in a differend thermostat because it would run too cold sometimes.

It plays an important role cooling the motor down on the highway.

Can someone tell me the temp that their cars run around town and at highway speeds with the air dam? I have yet to take my car on the highway due to the 10yo tires i have on it, but when crusing for about a half hour around town not going past 55ish my car stays around 230-235. Oh im asking because i dont have an air dam yet, it should be here by monday and i just want to know what to expect.
Thanks
Ok before i had the air dam and a new thermostat my car was overheating especially on the highway. After that was all fixed i drive around now i mean my car idles rough guess it needs a tune up but my cars temp runs around the middle of the gauge a little below in traffic sometimes it will rise a little above but i definatley dont think it will be overheating again, i wish there was some way to get ride of that goofy looking velvety plasting thing lol but no i dont think it could drive without the air dam. I think the number mine runs around is a little below 200? if 250 if where the red line max is.
ok completely random i know this has nothing to do with this lol but stephen how do i find out my cars axle/gears and transmissions name? oh and how do i get a pic of my car near my name to the left

Stock, you'll have a T5 (manual) or overdrive 700R4 (auto), unless you have an early 3rd gen (82-84, I believe it was), then a non-overdrive TH350.
The rear end is a 9-bolt or 10 bolt. Only the Firehawks got the better Dana 44 rears.
Pic on the left is the Avatar. Go into your Account settings to find how to add for your. Mine is my STS tail lights on Hazard.
Yea im pretty sure mine is overdrive 700R4 cause i have a 90, how do i find out if i have 9 or 10 bolt? Thx stephen, so what exactly do i write in the Axle/Gears spot? lol

Look at the rear end cover....
If you see 9 bolts, its a 9-bolt. See 10 bolts? Believe it or not....Its a...................................10-BOLT!
As for what to write. Some people put the gear ratio in, posi or not. I've seen "Yeah, there is one under there." Whatever you want. I'm waiting to see (but rather be the one who does) "IRS" in there! (Independent Rear Suspension-Corvette)
thx again man, im so bored i think this thread needs a lil more lol. The pictures are so limited, do you have any idea how I can get my pictures into the site Firebird Pictures, or how i find this "Forum Garage". They have a Trans, Formula, and 2 GTA's one hardtop and T-Top but no Regular bird so i kinda wanna throw mine up there in that blank spot
