Removing Drivers/Passengers Window outer weather strip

I cant figure out how to completely remove the outer window weather strip from my doors. It is held on by around 4 or 5 screws on the inside of the door and I can get 2 of the screws out but the other ones are blocked by the window itself. Does it require taking out the glass or is there a special angeled tool needed to get the remaining screws out.

have the window down and unbolt the two guides with the cloth at the end dont know what there called but you can unbolt them slide them back then carefully pull the window back towards you and you "should" be able to get a wrench back there thats how i did mine removal of the window was not necessary

Re: Removing Drivers/Passengers Window outer weather strip

Just removed the guides with cloth on the ends. Does give more room. Will still have to find some sort of angeled screw driver of some sort but I think I should be able to get it... Hopefully the screws are not rusted, if they strip I will be very pissed.

I used a phillips bit in a pair of pointed vise grips ,real pain in the a** but it worked . the harder part is when the new sweep holes don't line up that's Fun .

Bite the bullet and get some new ones. I bought a set from ebay for i think it was about 100.00 for 4 pieces. 2 for each door, inner and outer. And NO the bolt holes didnt line up. I actually had to drill a new hole in each outer strip. but Overall im VERY satisfied and well worth it to have some new rubber sweeps in place

Re: Removing Drivers/Passengers Window outer weather strip

I got lucky at the junk yard but for some reason the pas. sd does not touch the window so rain gets in still. I tried to push the window out with the two felts and it was too hard to roll up. Made some nasty noises too. I just hope that when I ever get to the door panels that the inner sweeps push the window out. Anyone had this trouble?

Mine where held in by 7mm bolts also. I took the felts off, & used needle nose vise grips. Took a little bit but it worked. It would help a lot if you had someone to hold the window back, if not put a screwdriver handle between the new sweep and the window while you screw it in place. My drilling was minimal. Had to poke the bit in the hole and force it to one side to eat some of the sweep out of the way. No big deal. Hope this helps.

The only problem with the using junkyard seals is that they're 17+ years old and dried up.Buying new seals will not only last longer, they're not dried out as well and will also enable (if equipped) your power window to roll up and down easier.Just something to think about.

If you would like to check out our prices on weatherstrip here's a link to that section of our site.

Buying new ones would not have been any diff except for the price. The ones I found had been changed. Lots of things had been changed before someone wrecked the car (doors where fine). The hood, & hatch struts where like new also. The sweeps are nice and soft like new. not like the ones I took off the car with chunks missing.
