Re: undercoating question

When I bought my firebird I noticed that somebody applied undercoating to the rear fenderwells. When I started to tear it down for paint I noticed that it had some deep rust on the very bottom behind the wheel but I couldnt see the rust because they sprayed the undercoating over it. It's easy to tell if they covered up rot all you have to do is tap on the areas with your hand to see how soft the metal is or if your hand goes thru and knocks chunks off. Also check any areas where the undercoating is flaking off.

Re: undercoating question

I looked at an 87 IROC a while back... Someone fiberglassed the rear frame rail and undercoated over it... The hairs from the bondoglass were sticking out...

Most cars were undercoated from the dealership, so it could be original, too.
