Trans am fender swap and repaint.

Ok so I have a base model 2.8 firebird and I acquired fenders off of a trans am from a junkyard. So far I filled up the holes for the GFX and primed the fenders. Im a bit stuck though, how do I remove the passenger side fender because of the antannae? Thanks in advance, and heres pics of my progress.

Re: Trans am fender swap and repaint.

Its simple to get off, you just need to remove the antenna mast and the mount. The base of the antenna mast should have a hex shape to it so a wrench will fit on it, find one that fits and unscrew it.

Then unscrew the cap on the top of the antenna mount. It is supposed to be taken off with a special spanner tool, but you can usually just unscrew them by hand. If that wont work, try some pliers, but be careful you dont mar the paint. You could try putting masking tape around the cap so the pliers wont chew it up.

Once you get the metal cap off the antenna mount, the black plastic mount itself should just lift out of the hole and your done.

BTW those are some very nice fenders you have there. You should see about finding a TA hood to go with them, the hood has four vents on it that really match well with those fender vents and look great.

Ok thanks a bunch man. I'll remove the fender tomorrow.

BTW here is a pic of the fenders when I first bought them.

Not bad for 50 bucks eh?

I filled the holes by spot welding it till it filled the holes and grinded down the spots. Then I filled in the low spots using a tiny bit of bondo and primed it.

Re: Trans am fender swap and repaint.

That was a great deal for them. I could never find a good set for less than a few hundred. Finally I got a set for free off a buddies old TA, but they where covered in small dents and peeling paint, and some bad rust. Took a lot of work to get them back in shape.

Good luck with the install, they are going to look great on your car.
