question about ground effects on Z28

i'm getting ready to re-paint the ground effects on my 1985 Z28. car is black with gold accents. i have decided to paint the ground effects black also. question is this: would it be better to remove them from the car, prep and paint, and then replace them. or tape and paint them in place? how involved is it to remove them? since i'm changing color, i would think i would get a cleaner paint job if they were removed for paint. has anyone here done this recently? thanks, rick

Re: question about ground effects on Z28

if your changing the color of them it would be best take take them off in case you have any rust forming below them that needs repaired. The only problem you may run into is the ground effects are sometimes brittle and might break. If you start running into theis problem then it's best for you to just leave them on and do it on the car

thanks, yeah, i agree, that removing them would probably be best. assuming they aren't too brittle, are they easy to remove? are they bolted on, clipped or what? thanks

Re: question about ground effects on Z28

Not fun
The main areas to worry about are the two long screws that reside under the Z/28 emblems (because you might break the emblems when you pry them off) and the rear of the rocker FX has a funky slide clip on the back in '85 you have to carefully pull away without breaking anything.
