1986 Camaro hood wont open - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

Ok i went to start my car and the battery died so i pull my hood release an nothing happens i can hear a little clicking noise but the hood never opens any suggestions on the problem

Get a friend and one of you jiggles the hood as the other pulls and releases the hood hand in the car. The hood latch gets a grove after a while. I have successfully repaired a few using a small grinding stone by radius-ing the latch.

this also happened to my car, it took 2 of us but we got it. Also once you get it open which i am sure you'll do take the hood spring and stretch it out. My hood now opens with no problem since i did that.

all of the above . also take time to clean & re-lube latch mechanism . clean well with carb cleaner , mineral spirits or wd-40 . then re-lube with white lithium grease . all would be available at any auto parts store . the latches can/will get a large build-up of crud over the years . also take a look at release cable , good luck .
