hatch wont close now randomly

87 firebird, in the process of restoring and this will be the first of many questions about the body probably. Car was getting oil & radiator drained so it was up on jack stands. had doors closed but hatch open. went to shut the hatch and it's like it moved a centimeter up to far.
even now off the stands still the same, the car did have power running through it before i disconnected the battery, possible the electric closing mechanism got stuck in a shut position when i had the hatch open?

Re: hatch wont close now randomly

If it did overtravel in the up cycle, it may have lifted the reversing switch off of the contacts of the motor. Follow the Tech Article on thirdgen.org or the instructions for the 101170 nylon guides which can be downloaded from the lower left side of my web site under "documentation". These instructions will tell you how to disassemble your 86-87 pull-down or 88-91 pull-down unit. Once you've pulled the gear nut out of the clear plastic motor housing you'll need to turn the gear nut in a couple of turns. Then re-assemble the lift rod plate to the housing and reattach the reversing switch with the phillips-head screw. If you can't figure it you can make arrangements to send it to me and I'll diagnose and repair it.
