well i found an article on how someone is trying to make a body kit that fits only third gens that will support the 2010 camaro. its currently only a concept but hopefully it could become reality caus i personaly would like to see a camaro power by a carb, tpi, or tbi.
There's no way anyone with a 3rd gen is ever going to get the power available with the 5th gen without spending almost as much money as it would cost to just buy a 5th gen. Even in the 4th gen models, the 4th gen V6's had way more stock power than any stock V8 3rd gen (my brother had a 1995 V6 5sp. stock that just kicked butt all day).
And I know - there are alot of 3rd gens making alot of power - but they haven't been built for it under the guise of a daily, fill gas change oil driver - these aren't cars that your high-maintenance soccer mom wife can go get bread & milk in. You power seekers out there have invested a ton of time, money, and effort to get that muscle that the 4th gen, and now the 5th gen cars, are driving off the lot with, and in most cases for way less hp/dollar than just buying a new car would provide.
Don't get me wrong - I think the design concept is nice - in fact maybe better looking than the actual 5th gen car. It would appear to be longer in appearance vs. width - something I like better - to me, the 5th gen looks a little short (but then again, the 5th gen is fashioned after the 1st gen car which is short).
As mentioned in the article, the price tag would be high - maybe not as high as buying a 5th gen. But for that kinda buck, I could probably buy enough motor to rise to the ranks of the few that have a 3rd gen that can keep up with a 5th gen - and to me, it's always better to beat 'em than to join 'em (ie 3rd gen taking a 5th gen).
I guess it's kinda like the Suby I saw today - guy spent probably $3k on carbon fiber hood with big big scoop, front end, side quarters, etc. - and in the end all he had was a 4banger Suby - yeah it looked pretty, but had no go at all - it'll take him another $4k just to make it go as fast as the WRX, which this was not, and he should have just gotten to begin with if that's what he wanted.
And what happens when he rear ends someone - his insurance will pay 75% of his outstanding loan, and he'll be making payments on a box full of carbon fiber that he can't even drive because the ins companies won't let us insure our cars for their real value as opposed to joe blow's book value.
But hey - if the kit is made, post a pic - like everyone elses mods, whether I like the look or not, I'll at least look at it, applaud your efforts, and be glad you're happy with it.
But my car IS a 3rd gen - I'm damn proud of it, and I'm not going to hide that fact!
i agree i bought a third gen because i like the look of it (not to mention i got it cheep) but i will say i that i am planing on 500~550 hp range with my build on pump gas as a DD. is that more power then the new fifth gens personally IDK. i never liked how they looked so my incite on them stopped there. are they fast im sure they are. but i love my third gen and will love it for a very long time.
I think doing all that work is kinda silly. Just buy a 5th gen if you like the look of it. Considering how Chevy used styling cues from the 1st gen on the new 5th gen, I think it would be awesome if they made a 6th gen that kinda looks like a 3rd gen. That article with those camaro pictures would be a great place to start. I like how the cars in that drawing look, but I think we should leave it up to Chevy to make another generation of Camaros that look similar to that (maybe make 'em just a little more like a 3rd gen though).
Mods so far: MSD Cap and rotor, MSD ignition coil, Accel 8.8mm ignition wires, Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers, Flowmaster 3in catback, underdrive crank pulley, BBK AFPR, custom cold air intake, NOS wet 125 shot, air foil and a lead foot! no E/T's yet. ...TURBO COMING SOON...Other mods include keyless entry and remote start, and Sequential Turn Signals. 3.8L V6 put out 200 HP...more power than the earlier V8 engines (though not by much), but far short of what V8's were putting out by '85-'86 and up. Many people believe that the factory ratings on the IROC's (275hp??--corrected below) were actually understated. So yeah, there are V8 3rd Gens that trump the 4th Gen's 3.8 V6.
The 3.4 engines were not as impressive as the 3.8's, so those are even less likely to spar successfully against any 3rd Gen V8.
Anyway, getting back on topic, I'm not sure a 5th Gen kit would really work well on these cars. No matter how you blend the body lines, the 5th gen parts are just going to look like add-ons. I don't think the 3rd Gen profile lends itself to accepting the 5th Gen nose or tail.

Reason: number correction
Indeed. Thanks to GM's golden rule that no other car can trump the Vette in ANY category (what a stupid rule). If the Vette can't defend its own hill it should be knocked off!
As far as I read these are just drawings, aka concept drawings, so not actually happening. But I'd build the wagon version myself if I thought I was any good.
They look fine too me.
I think I like how it looks. If I had the extra cash, and it looked as well in production as in the pics, i think i would go for this! I also noticed they were making a very similar thing for el caminos, and i think that one looks awesome also. Maybe i would just leave the third gen alone and do it on an elky. haha

If this kit comes out, I wouldn't mind building a vert like the one in the pic, but I would only use the rear fascia part of the body kit.... the rest would be thirdgen.
I think the 2010 Camaro 3rd gen idea is pretty cool! I think it looks great! You can have the new look minus the new Camaro's airbags, fuel injection, ABS, anti lock, satelite radio, GPS, and all that other useless BS! I'd buy a 1982-1986 Camaro so it has no air bags and would have a carb, just for the 2010 Camaro body kit. I think it's great becuase personaly I hate new cars because of there technolegie, most of it is pointless, and its all made to break anywase... Now if they made a 5th gen Firebird body kit for the 3rd gen, now that I would DEFINATLY buy!!!!! (I know the 5th gen Firebird was simply an idea since GM got rid of Pontiac (BIG mistake ) but the 5th gen looked amazing to me!).
The sketches are just the artist concept anyways so the real ones would look twice as dorky. You could never get the big wheels to fit that close to the body without major surgery and the roofs and A pillars are raked out of proportion just to look cool.
I didnt even notice the giant wheels lol. And the front window does looked racked out of porportion, but only on the convertable.. I still think it would look cool. Even if all the other "concepts" that turned into realyty looked like crap, I still think this would look cool. But what would even be cooler would be the 5th gen firebird concept turned into a body kit for the 3rd gen firebird. That would be awesome!
