I want to put red leds into my headlights and i was wondering what you guys think about this. The bulb will still be there i would drill some holes (5 to be exact) in a circle around the bulb and put the leds through that way. Im not looking to light the street up with them, just get a nice red glimmer out of them. Enough so it looks like some bada$$ eyes or somethin at night. I would also hook them up to my alarm, so every time i unlock or lock it they would go off. Just an idea for right now but i might make a "how to" out of it.
So if you could let me know what you think, or tell me that it won't work, that would be awesome thanks guys
I love the idea man but one thought i know itss illigal in my state at least for any lighting to be red except in the rear of a vehicle unless its 4 an emergency vehicle just a stupid law but I just figured i should let you know just in case u get hassled some day

I think that its a bad idea. Considering that our headlight housings ARE the bulb, drilling holes in them will only release the gases compressed within, and your bulb wont work any more. The whole bulb is a sealed unit, just a large square light bulb.
Bad Idea. It works nice on cars with composite headlights where the bulb is a separate unit that you can remove from the housing to replace it. Our cars use a sealed beam type of headlight and won't work if you put holes in the light.
As mentioned also, red lights on the front of a car are illegal while driving in PA, unless its an emergency vehicle, and I believe in most other states as well.
All that being said, I agree its a nice idea, I plan on doing something similar with my Camaro. I want to put red LED's in the 4 corners of the headlight pocket so that it glows red at nite. It'll be controlled from a separate switch so it doesn't come on while I'm driving. I like the idea of having those lights flash when you arm/disarm the alarm system. While the car is parked, it doesn't matter what lights you have on as long as the battery can maintain enough of a charge to start the car.
The only way I know of to do that is to swap out the entire headlight assembly. There are some threads around on doing it. Various headlight setups have been used but some require more work to fit than others. Off the top of my head, I've seen headlights from Corsicas, Luminas, Silverados/Sierras and BMW's swapped in. A search for headlight swap or something similiar ought to bring up the threads.
I've also seen some direct replacement lights advertised on Ebay that would do what you want. They have neon rings in them. Searching "Camaro Angel Eyes" should bring up what I'm talking about. I don't know if the bulb is separate from the housing on those, but there would be no need for it as they already have the extra light inside them. The only downside to those is that you may not be able to make them blink with the car alarm. I don't know if the glow part is wired separately or if it gets power from the same connection as the headlights.
there are tons of aftermarket headlights that accept a bulb, in-fact most have what the call "driving lights" AKA one little extra bulb you can put in to change the color. I got mine off of ebay, and also got an HID kit. I had blue LED's in them for a little bit, got pulled over once and that was it... so use caution
I got pulled over for red lights in the parking lights on my bird plus several evil looks from cops that saw me passed while on the side of the road. I loved the look but don't give em a reason to pull you over for something stupid like lights or license plate covers etc.
