locked out with engine running

last night I stopped my camaro to get something out the trunk with my engine running, my lights on and I closed my door and it locked. and my windows were up! my alarm auto. locks when I turn on the ignition. well I tried using a slim jim but couldnt open it so I had to call AAA they unlocked it about 30 sec with some air bag they put between the window and use a long pole of some sort to push open my auto lock button. thankfully I didnt run out of gas waiting! that was the first time this happened to me. my spare remote didnt work because the car was running. does anybody know how to unlock the door with a slim jim? thankfully I didnt scratch the glass also

Re: locked out with engine running

I used a long stick to get the window bent enough to hold it with my hand then used the same stick to manually push the lock slider or whatever it's called. This was before i had my alarm, now I have a spare remote.

Do what AAA did... use a plastic wedge instead of the airbag.

Re: locked out with engine running

that happened with my old truck. it was gay. but it also happened while engine off in my t/a. I used to watch that tv series FRIENDS<that episode when they got a bunch of chop sticks and taped them together to poke the "ugly naked guy" they wanted to see if he was dead or alive. but anyways i did that took thirty minutes, i broke up like 9 plastic hangers and used the straight plastic bottoms taped together. works by press the button switch. yay.

Re: locked out with engine running

I felt a little awesome when i locked my keys in my car at walmart saturday. I remembered how i got in it the last time, cept this time i used my antenna. I pried the window away a little with a screw driver and had someone hold it. Then I used the end of my antenna to push the handle on my t-top till it was unlocked. I felt a little cool .

Me too. I've never needed it, but I know I would as soon as I didn't have it.

Re: locked out with engine running

man i guess i should consider myself lucky. My car has no exterior lock cylinders so i have no way to lock my doors from the outside. Thus i have no fear of ever locking my keys in. Not very safe but i am installing a Viper alarm with door poppers so i should be good for the summer.
