question about lift support on hatch

just installed two new lift supports on our 1985 Z28 hatch. purchased these brand new OEM replacement supports from ebay vendor. they are described to be for 85 camaro with spoiler but no wiper ( my car)

question is this, after installing them last night, i could barely close the hatch because they were so stiff, then when we release the hatch it comes up like a rocket. good thing i had a hold of it.........

has anyone else installed new supports, and did it act like this initially? will they "relax" soon? or did i get the wrong ones???? thanks, rick

Re: question about lift support on hatch

Mine are kinda stiff, but not as bad as you describe. Then again my car is suppose to have window louvers on the hatch.

Re: question about lift support on hatch

That seems like they are way too stiff. I think they should just push the hatch up slowly when you open it. But hey, you can always park it in your driveway and use it to shoot stuff at your neighbor's house (just kidding).

Re: question about lift support on hatch

Well I would do 2 things. 1) Send them back for another replacement set. 2) Btw recommended by most here. Wait for the neighborhood cat to jump on the hatch, hee hee, then see if cats do land on there feet lol. seriously send them back for a replacement before you lose your glass or if you have a spoiler that too. I got 5 bucks on a 10 foot launch though .
