How much will this cost?

A new paint job on my 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. Like completely. No prep or anything, how much do you think it could cost? Give examples for different places etc PLEASE, I need to have an Idea of how much to save up! lol. OH! and there is a dent in the hood that seems to have come from people slamming the hood too hard.. Any Idea how this could be fixed? or how much would it cost to repair in a body shop? It would be easy to hammer out.. but we cant get it the dent, its right on top of the hood fasteners. :O What should I do? And the cost of Paint? How much would it cost to get the dent removed+paint on the hood.. JUST the hood?

Thanks alot you guys, please respond, Idk what I'de do without yah.

Re: How much will this cost?

Kind of hard to answer.
Things to think about :
How much body work is needed?(dents, dings)
Any panels need replaced?(crashed?rust?)
Doors need hinges//pins replaced?
Plastic body pieces need repaired//replaced?
Hourly labor rate?
I've seen some Very Nice TGO cars come out of MAACO(spelled right?)

I helped a friend do a little prep on GFX and the shop that did the job fixed a small rust spot inside the passenger side rear foot area, install SFCs,and all body work, prep work & paint for right around $4500.

No IDK..
Hey man, hang in there!!Save what you can,put your change in a big a## glass jar;save, save, save!!
Ask around--you might find an old gearhead who paints for a hobby and wouldn't charge your left arm!LOL
I looked around for a few months and found out the guy a couple blocks over did this as a hobby. He told me what needed to be done before he would paint it.
I got the sandpaper,sanding block,and primer//paint//additives//clear,etc.
My wife & I did all the sanding & whatever body work we could, then we took it over.
Two weeks later we had a painted Camaro.
Close to $1400.MUCH better than the 4-5 thou estimates!!

Nice, I wish someone around here did stuff like that. And I guess I'll go look around for a big *** jar. HAHA. I can save up, It will take me a while, but for my bird; its worth it. Haha. Do you have any idea on how I can remove dents on my hood? I think they are from people slamming the hood way to hard, previous to my owning of the car. Im thinking Paintless dent removal.. Any Ideas? I cant really get TO the dents to pop them out from the underside, because the dents are right on the TOP layer of metal. Lol. Theirs two layers. And Ideas? What could I use to pop them out from the top?

Re: How much will this cost?

Only thing I can think is go to a body shop & see what they say.

NOTE:: SOME shops charge for taking a look.SOME shops don't.Call & ask if they charge for taking a look.

Any one with experience in this kind of body work PLEASE add!

Re: How much will this cost?

Buy a cheap hood from the salvage yard no dents, since you were going to repaint the hood. What you are going to spend in tools and labor(your time is money) you can spend on a used hood. You have to remember that around the dented area the metal has stretched making it very hard to remove (ie. shrinking effected areas). The dent if lifted out will most likely oil can.

Well, we don't have to many wrecking yards around here, BUT I could order one from Hawks! Hm. It asks me to "add air extractors", on my hood I have all four, the two vents in the front, and the two near the back of the hood. On this new hood will I need to order all four air extractors?

Re: How much will this cost?

The dent in the hood could be pdr able depending on the size. as for the cost of the paint job, it depends on the hourly rate the shop gets, the paint they use, and so on

Re: How much will this cost?

if you 16 take it to maaco and have them paint it for 400, then if 5 or 10 years when you have more money redo it
