i have a significant amount of cancer on my a pillars. the bars running up the side of the windshield. i have an 86 camaro and it has t tops. i was wondering if its possible to replace the section and if anyone has any idea about how much that would cost?

It's going to cost more than the car is worth if you pay someone to do it. It can be replaced, but it's pretty labor intensive.

ya thats what i figured.... due to the fact that all the windows have to seal so they would have to do it perfect. are there any other options? maybe cut the rust sections and weld in sheetmetal? would that be cheaper

Anything you do yourself will be cheaper technically...assuming you don't count your labor monetarily. Paying anyone else to do it that doesn't owe you big will be expensive. If you have any welding experience I would try and tackle it yourself and see what you get. You can try it on a smaller section or the floor if that has any rust spots for practice first to get you in the groove if you feel uneasy about it.

its not very hard to do, go to a junk yard and cut out what you need, then cut yours out but leave a little extra so you can slowly grind it to fit, just make sure you take the time to ensure proper fitment,tack it first and then test fit your glass for fitment, dont weld to much in one place, keep tacking it so you don't put to much heat in it, as this will cause it to warp, just take your time. hope this helps.

Just something else to think about.... Before you cut into your A Pillars, bear in mind that they also have a support function to the body.... It's always best to tack in some supports in an X pattern from the floor to the top corners of the pillars before you remove a section... These pillars can really move around a lot when you cut them in half!!! Oh yeah, don't be moving the car around when the pillars or pillar sections are cut out!!!!

I did an '86 Camaro from a flat roof to a T-Top...not that bad of a job---if you have the tools, equipment, and a place to do it.... If this is your first attempt at any sort of structural work on a car, it might be best to have someone with a bit of experience assist you...

One last thing, Get lots of measurements, top to bottom, side to side, and corner to corner of the windshield opening before you do any cutting!!!!!
