This question has probably been asked before but here goes. I have an 87 Camaro with a body crack starting to appear at the back of the drip rail above the drivers side door. Does anyone have experience with this and any suggestions for a reliable fix?
That is the typical crack that appears, because of the unibody flexing over the years.
About the only way to fix & prevent its return, is the have the body checked for straightness, have it fixed if it has tweaked over the years, then install subframe connecters.
You could simply instal subframe connectors, but in my opinion, I would wonder if the unibody has flexed out of TRUE alignment over the years.

Welcome to TGO. The problem is common given the flex in f-bodies. A good set of SFC's will generally eliminate the problem. A search will provide more info should you need it.

Thanks Stephen. I was already planning on adding strut suports as well as subframe connectors. The car has never neen wrecked, no rust, and has been well cared for, but may be out of true from 150000 miles of driving. Your suggestion is a good one, and I will have the unibody checked prior to prepping for paint.
Welding is the way to fix the cracks. I take a tiny drill bit and drill the end of the crack, then use a small ball peen hammer to make a dent over the entire crack. Weld in, grind down and skim coat with filler. Never had an issue with them reappearing.
I'd put some SFC's in before doing this tough.

if its a crack and not scratch then only 2 ways out
either replace the door
or weld the crack, then some filing and some paint touch. cheaper way actually
