Unusual hood question

For my 86 RS I'm looking into getting a replacement hood. What makes this quite unusual is the mural that i plan on putting on it will take up nearly the entire hood, and, as far as i can see, the hood needs to be as flat or as free from the usual ridge as possible. the RS hood are the closest things I've seen,
but they still have the raised bump in the center. Can anyone recommend a hood for this situation? Also, I've HEARD that there are companies that will make a custom decal off of a pic you send them. Can anyone make recommendations?

How about this?

That is a base 82 camaro. Pretty much as flat as you would be able to get.

Re: Unusual hood question

Find a sign/graphics place that does full color printing.

Where I last worked at, they had a full color printer, that printed pictures on to clear vinyl. So the result was a full color decal. They could easily take a photograph any provided, scan it & turn it into a decal.

I still get them to do odd jobs for me (like full color prints), but do my own stripes, lettering, etc. myself now.

Thats exactally what I would like to do. Can you give me a guesstimate as
to how much i am looking at for the decal? Also, What would you recommend
for weather-proofing such a decal? Can a clear coat be painted over it to
maximize the durability?

Once again, thank you for your time.

Re: Unusual hood question

We've never put any type of clearcoat or anything over them. Kinda like the 2nd gen Firebood hood decals. They "simply" go on.

I was an install guy, so I have NO CLUE as to the prices. If you have a pic you can shoot me TONIGHT, I'll be going right by there early in the morning & can stop & ask. If you want, shoot the pic to SDC78605 (at) Austin.rr.com

Re: Unusual hood question

Went by today anyways. And for a 30" x 30" contour cut (cut along the edges, not just a big square piece or clear material with the 'bird on it) your looking at roughly $200, maybe a little more depending on the quality of the pic started with & how much work it takes for them to convert it into a printable graphics format in the computer.

Re: Unusual hood question

Sorry I couldn't get back to you last night; I was pulling my hair out looking for the pic, and ended up re-doing it, only to get fustrated at my own efforts

Currently, an artist friend of mine is re-drawing and coloring it. As soon as he finishes. I'l have the scan and will send it along.

$200 for 30" X 30" is very, very reasonable. Currently, my design looks to be about 28" X 40" at a resolution of about 1200dpi. When I have the file ready, I'll PM and send it along. It should be ready to go as a .psd photoshop file, already setup and dimensioned.

Once again, I'll be in touch!

Re: Unusual hood question

30" x 30" is their MAX size that they can do a contour cut.
