Alright, I got a fiberglass hood and had some clearance issues. The hood has two layers and the interior layer rubbed against my air box. heres what I did... made a template of what i needed to cut drew the cut lines. you can also see where it rubbed... and here on the air box I cut the hood and filled the gaps with spray foam insulation. I didnt have my hood struts installed at this point, hence the pipe. used fiberglass repair kit by Bondo to seal it up sanded it down primed, painted and clearcoated it and heres the finished result installed with the hood struts on! It still looks a little sloppy but I will eventually add another layer and try to get it much smoother. This works for now and I dont have to worry about rubbing anymore. Plus it looks much better than it originally did because it was a dull black. Now its all nice and shiny! Looks and functionality! So??? What do you think? Not bad for a first timer!

Hey, I like the creativity! I honestly never thought about the air box because I yanked mine out sometime ago, had a couple cross spark plug wires (make sure to check to make sure the ppl helping u put things back on right) well anyways ended up back firing and go it on fire so I literaly ripped it off the car and threw it into the yard then added some water to it. What I tried to do with this hood was find a way to utilize the cold air coming through the scoop, had a couple drawings made up and made some cardboard models but I ended up switching to carburated, the 2-1/2" clearence is perfect for my carb/spacer/and air cleaner.

I've got a question for you, did you use fiberglass matt or cloth when u did this?

Also I very highly suggest that you get a set of hood pins for your car. Our hoods are made in a two piece mold and bonded around the edges, with the added pressure of the foam it may cause those edges to pop creating the original two pieces leaving th lower half on ur car. Idk how the fiberglass that you put on will do holding the hood together but it may be something to check into gettin, only will help

Hey 92z28camarokid, Its funny you should mention hood pins, I installed them about 2 weeks ago! They work perfect! I got rid of all the latch crap too because I always had problems opening the hood with that. I will throw up some pics in a day or two.

As for the work, I used fiberglass cloth and had to mix the resin. I applied it by hand with some rubber dish gloves. It stunk!

Now that I have about two extra inches of clearance, my next project is going to be altering the air box for more flow. Keep an eye out for that!

And for the intake hole in the hood, it is functional, but not for intake purposes. It lines up perfectly with the lines on the plenum to keep cool air flowing over it. Plus I'm sure it keeps the rest of my top end cooler than it would be under a closed up hood! Not bad at all.

Thats now what I ment you miss understood me. When I look at the pic it looks weird or so. Is like where the bowtie logo goes but to the sides on the left and right where the fog lights are something looks weird there. Like you added a plate or something to make it look flush or so. I could be wrong though, do you have any front pics? trust me your ride looks killer.

I'm doing some alterations to my hood as well but mine is because the bolt holes got stripped when I first put my original hood bolts in it, well long story short, hood latch spring broke off one day, hood went up and thanks to the hood not bein completely bolted on, went up and over the car rather then snappin in half. I'll post pics and explain what I'm doin once th doctors clear me to work on my car again. Something about doin fiberglass work after they take out part of ur lung doesn't make the docs happy. Lol I've got two weeks till I'm cleared so it may be a lil while

I think your car looks awesome. Giving it the look YOU want is what matters most though. As far as the hood I think you did great work on that also. Keep up the good work and I cant wait to see what you have in store for the air box.

I love the way you made your grill, I was wondering how you did that it looks good. I was wanting to do mesh but I couldn't find a way to make it look good. I've got a billet grill I'm going to b puttin on mine, just gotta find a way to mount my front plate and make it look good.

I like the hood pins, is there anyway u can take a pic of them from the front with the hood up? I was wondering where to mount mine. Also how'd u go by puttin those through the hood?

So thats what it was the chicken wire that made it look funny you should put your fog lights in the middle. Just my openion though and get rid of that grill in the front and put in the back and paint it black.

Well the "chicken wire" mesh allows more air to flow through than the original rubber grille. Keep in mind, these two openings are the only places where I am getting air to my intake while driving. Two big foglights in the middle would restrict flow. This whole little mod was all about increasing functionality and performance. By adding foglights and mesh grille I was able to give it a better look in the process! Two benefits!
