What can you do for t-tops that are scratched and aren't really in the best shape? Mine do not leak however it would appear to me they need to be repainted. I am going to take my car to be repainted tomorrow but wondered if I can just have the auto body place just sand them down and repaint them? Or is it some kind of special paint they use for t-tops? Will I still be able to see through my t-tops if they repaint them?
If you don't mind not being able to see out of them, then you could have the body shop paint them any color you want. If they are glass, it may not stick well, and if they are acrylic you'll have to make sure they use a paint that is compatible. If you want to see out of them, you could try having them painted with just a clearcoat but it may yellow with age. Or I did see something on one of the car shows on Spike last weekend for removing scratches from glass. Pretty sure it was on Musclecar and it was a kit to sand and buff out scratches in glass. The acrylic ones can be gently wetsanded and buffed with normal wet/dry sandpaper and acrylic/plastic polishing compound.
alot of the times there acrilic or at least from what ive seen and mine are acrilic, i wet sanded just enough to get them out and then buffed them alot lol. the look better then the car now lol
just seen ur year and make..... mine is a 91 fireturd to lmao
Ah ok thanks, I definitely want to be able to see through them. I'm not sure if they're glass or acrylic, pretty sure they're acrylic though actually now that you mention it. They're whatever material GM made them out of as they're stock t-tops.
It is in the paint shop now, do you think they might be able to do something with them? Like maybe a wet sanding?
