Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
I want to replace all of my weatherstripping, and I found this kit
http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Weatherstri...01/242024/1984
I see the T-Top stuff is all GM which is good.
But the doors and hatch are not. I'm not sure what brand the 'aftermarket' stuff is. But I've read reviews on here, from people who bought various brands of aftermarket weatherstripping and I've seen fit and quality issues. Like on the door kits, the part where it screws in is not the same as OEM. Does anyone sell GM door kits?
Also with this kit, is this everything for the T-Tops?

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
there are additional pieces available (triangle seals, window sweeps, rain rails), but our kit noted above includes all the main seals you'd need for the car. And while our price may be higher than the other linked one, the t-top seals are OEM GM, not aftermarket (we do offer a lower cost kit with all aftermarket seals too). The doors and trunk are metro branded, but are high quality reproductions that should fit without any issue.

I'm going to go ahead and order the kit I linked to at the start.
Just one question, can't tell by the pic. But this kit includes the seal that I have pictured here? right?

The t top or you talking about the side weatherstrip? The side part is the t top weatherstripping (pretty big piece) also note if it says 8 or 6 piece t top weatherstripping.

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
Here is pic of the kit
and description.
GM T-Top Roofrail Seals: Seal the perimeter of the T-Top, and the front/rear of the side glass to the body of the car.
GM T-Top Out Edge Seals: Seal the outer edges of the T-tops to the side glass.
Aftermarket Door Seals: Seal the back, bottom, and front of the doors to the body of the vehicle.
Aftermarket Hatch Seal: Seals the Hatch to the body of the vehicle.
Dan said earlier this kit includes all the major pieces, but I'm not sure I see that piece in that pic or description. I just want to make sure I get everything. and not realize later I'm missing something and have to reorder and make the shop wait on me that will be installing it.

The other pieces he may talking about is like the triangle piece by the side mirrors, the hood, but the kit look like it does have most of the weatherstripping for the car.

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
That's called the "Body Mount" T-top seal.
Don't skimp on weatherstripping, go genuine GM. It's all still available from GM, except the drip rails.
I just pieced together the whole shebang a couple months ago. Wasn't cheap, but I'll be glad I did it later.
I got:
--T-top seals
--T-top metal retainers (got the last two in the country, heh)
--T-Top Body Mount seals
--T-top drip rail (got one, the other I'm still looking for but it's the sole missing piece)
--Hatch seal
--Cowl seal
--Door seals upper (the long ones that go around 3 sides of the door)
--Door lower seals (extra seals along the bottom edge)
--Outer Door Felts
All of this can still be had either from GM or other companies selling it NOS. I will probably have to get 1A's drip rails though, because it doesn't look like I can get the other one anywhere, and I'd rather have a matching pair than one GM one and one aftermarket one.

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
The "body mount" T-top seal is just that--it's the T-top seal that mounts to the body of the car, what the T-tops actually seal against (Part #7):
Part #30 is the Metal Retainer which holds the drip rail and the weatherstripping on the T-top itself together.

So what's the difference between the body mount seals and the T-Top Seals?

We have original GM T-top and door seals available on our site. Here's a link if you're interested.

The original GM pieces are MUCH better than any aftermarket pieces available.

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
you have 2 seals that come in contact with the t-top. first is the body seal that mounts on the car and seals to the 3 sides of the t-top. the other one is the side seal; this seal attaches to the t-top and seals the t-top to the door glass.
hope that clears things up for ya

Should I paint the car before j put the weather strip kit on? ( sorry for the thread steal, didn't think a new thread was necessary)

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
We have all the GM weatherstripping available on our site and I don't think you'll find it at a better price anywhere else. It is best to replace it after your get your car painted. I'm not sure how soon you're planning on getting your car painted but you may want to think about ordering the weatherstrip as soon as you can afford to. More and more original GM pieces are being discontinued all the time so it's hard to say how much longer it may be around.

what were all the part numbers for the seals you purchased? im having a difficult time navigating through the GM.P.D. website. How much do you think you spent in total for all of your weather strip parts?

+1 for the GM seals. My metros are coming apart at the seams after 15 months and need replacement. For all the work involved, the GM seals will be worth the extra bucks just because they won't fall apart. As an added bonus, they won't stick to your tops.

Metro seals shouldn't be falling apart anywhere near that quickly and are covered for 10+ years against defects.

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
I put my VIN number into the GM Parts Direct website, but still had to do a lot of research. This was kind of a mess to figure out, and I can't guarantee compatibility outside of 1990, but my guess is most/all parts will be very similar, if not the same, particularly for later cars:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...atibility.html
EDIT: GM Parts Giant website, not GM Parts Direct.

GM Parts Direct sells their weatherstrip very cheap but they make up for it with very high shipping prices. By the time you order two or more pieces from them it's very likely our prices will be cheaper.

Re: Has anyone bought this weatherstripping kit?
I would have liked to get a full kit for my car too. I got new GM roof rail seals a while ago and spent about 150. I went to a local pick and pull the other day and got two mint condition GM door seals off of a 92 RS for 5 bucks. The roof rail seals were perfect too, but with the factory sealant they are a bitch to get off without damage, so i left them. Good parts are to be had for cheap if you get out and look. I like new too, but sometimes a corner cut here and there is good. I cant tell you how many times ive bought items off ebay, only to find out that a trip to a local salvage yard, that allows you to get the parts yourself, could be had for 1/4 or less than the purchased price from those sources.
