Removing console

I have a 1983 camaro Z28 and I was wondering how to remove the console so i can do some work on it. I'm not sure exactly where the bolts are that hold it to the floor or how many there are. Any help would be nice. Pictures would be great. Thanks

I have tons of pictures of my interior project, but none go into detail as to what you have to remove to do it. So I'll try to explain the best I can.

Remove the shifter knob. You didn't mention if it was automatic or not, so I'll go with how I did mine (88). There is a staple in the front side of the knob. Carefully, with a pair of pliers and a little screwdriver, pry it out and pull it out. The knob comes off. Next, you'll probably have to remove the hand brake handle. Pull it up, and take out the screw on the driver's side of the handle. It should slide off.

Next, you have to remove the shift indicator/ash tray plate. Remove all screws w/ hex screwdriver and take it off. There is a light attached to it. Just turn counterclockwise to unlock and it should come out. Next, there are two screws inside the "glove" box or center console bin. Remove those. I "think" there are a couple of screws above the climate control area you have to remove too. One in each corner. Then the top portion of the console should come off. Becareful, this plastic can be fragile and you have to maneuver it to get it off. Also, when you get it high enough, remove the power windows, rear hatch release buttons (if equipped). You may be able to remove these switches after removing the shift indicator/ashtray plate.

If you want to remove the lower part, the key things are to remove the two bolts towards the rear, the one in the middle bolting the two metal pieces together and then two screws, one on each side, mounting to the underside of the dash. Remove the radio/climate control and that should come out.

i may be forgetting something, but at least this should help get you going.

Re: Removing console

theres 2 screws that hold it to the floor in the storage area. then theres screws that hold it to the dash under the radio trim plate. theyre under the ac controls IIRC. you have to remove the under dash pad on the driver side or the console will get hung up on it. its held on with 3 torx screws.
