Ok, so I have a 1991 Pontiac Trans Am. It currently has the glass t-tops on 'er. The outside trim on the t-tops have went to ****, one side actually broke off on me, the other side is just all sorts of nasty looking. Instead of just painting the one side and replacing the other, i'm going to try replacing both of them with a new (used) set. So here are my questions:
Does it matter if the donor t-tops came off a camaro or a firebird? I don't see why it would, but hey, i'm no expert.
Does it matter if I get the glass or the lexan t-tops? I noticed another post on here said that the latches were different? Is there an advantage with going to the Lexan over the glass ones?
I'm looking at getting a set from thirdgenparts.com , anyone deal with them much before? or especially bought t-tops from them? Were they in pretty good shape?
I think that's all the questions I have, I'm hoping to buy 'em by the end of the week.
Is that saying that only t-tops that come off of 89-92 cars would fit mine? Or is that trying to say that any from late 85 to 92 would fit, but that the lexamar plastic ones were only available from 89-92.
when i bought my 91 ta last july it had the plastic t tops in it i went to a local junk yard and got a set of glass t top out of a 86 TA the only thing i did was take all the hardware off plastic ones and put on the glass ones it was a perfect fit ,i paid 50$ for both
I swaped a set of glass tops from my lexan ones. All i had to do was adjust the plastic latch on the car. I beleive any year will work (82-92 that is) but i would try and find a new set.. they will have better seals
You can take them from a camaro or firebird.
I had the lexan ones, yes they are lighter but they flex and therefore squeek. They are also slightly convex and produce a LOT of wind noise
I went ahead and ordered a glass set from thirdgenparts.com . I knew that the early 3rd gen t-tops would not fit, due to the latch being different. I just hope these babies are in fairly good shape. Ended up paying $125 and $22 for shipping.

I'd like to know how the new tops are when you get them. I'm also looking to replace mine. Maybe you can gimme some hints by experience.
my 89 had plastic tops and I had to replace one of them with a glass one. I got it out of a junkyard Im not sure what year it was but it came off a firebird, any way the latch doesnt push in all the way.

Wow, thank god the guy was a little bit slow shipping out the t-tops. I emailed him yesterday about asking for a tracking # and asking him if I mentioned that I did NOT want the set to be mirrored. He replied back today saying that the tops he had set out for me were mirrored. That would have been very, very bad. I don't think that would have looked right at all. (SIGH) So hopefully the other set he has of non mirrored t-tops is in good condition too.
