front seat head rest removal

can anyone tell me how to remove the head rests from the front seats.

It's a 86' T/A with NON power, cloth seats. The headrests sit on a flat bat that slides down the seat back. The headrests are covered with cloth and have the seat belt loops fastened to the side. The seats have pockets on the back and a zipper at the bottom of the seat back.

Just curious....why? Aren't the head rests there to save yourself from head/neck injury in the event of a rear impact?

i was wondering this also...

i tried to take one apart to get the seat cover off... and i still have been unable to get it apart..

any help is appreciated...

To take off the head rest you'll need something about 2 inches wide,very thin like a slim jim, and about 6 or 7 inches long. Slide that tool down the front of the head rest post and it should release the entire head rest out. Just pull up while you slide the tool down.
