I have heard that the 88 gta's had the option of a knotchback from the factory? I have never seen one before, but it seems like it might look cool. I enter gm shows in my area once in a while, and originality counts. Does anyone know of a website that has a picture of one, or an aftermarket vendor that seels them?? Please help. Any info. would be great..

The notchback was a super rare option. That one frankierider has is NICE. I would like to see one with an f40 wing on it weather the notch was aftermarket or not. It would look sweet I think. If you ever see a notchback for sale look at buying it because it was so rare.

I would think the speakers would really rattle the decklid under power due to the fact that the lid closes down right over the "hole" in the rear compartment..... there is no free air space there with the notchback. A damaged tire goes in a special bag provided that clips to the folded rear seat backs in the event of a flat..... there is no longer any room there to put the tire in the well at the back of the car.
Besides, you certainly wouldn't want to crack one of these things. And, yes..... one of these would indeed fit a Camaro. The rear hatches attach in the same manner on both cars.

The glass itself is stationary. The entire assembly raises in one piece when the hatch is released.
For those of you who might be interested in a notchback for your car, contact George at GT Auto Accessories (the guys with the fiberglass aerowings) and tell them you want one! He recently expressed to me a definite interest in making these decklids molded in the OEM style if the demand was great enough.

DAMN Frankie!! That is 1 nice car!! My favorite color too!
One question--Is that rear "glass"-well-glass? Also do you have a rear defog in it?
Damn I'm jealous!

Tony, here's a shot of the back glass. Yes, it is real glass... and yes, it does have the defogger. My extra OEM decklid is the same way.

Yes, he's been staying out of trouble... but that photo is two years old above. It was the quickest one I could find that showed the decklid for this post.
Here's one taken today (7-11-01)... Sorry for the dirt and dust, but he's been serving as a daily driver for a few days for Jami while her Explorer was in the shop. It's out now, thank goodness.
For those of you interested in GT Auto's upcoming notchbacks and other body products.... their quality is excellent. Here is the first test fitting of the aero wing I got from them... and I think it looks pretty damn good.

We tried to fit the 4th gen style wing and our aero wing to the notch back and it was close but no cigar. We are going to make a wing for it. The factory camaro wing will fit and also the firebird wing not the aerowing, will fit. frankie I got the clips back (wrong address) I sent them again on mon.
