I am planning on spraying my under hood next week and the car later this spring and was planning to spray a modern Base Coat/ Clear Coat. I've sprayed Urethane, laquer , and enamel and projects in the past, But I'm getting confused what to look for on Base coat clear coat I've seen urethane, acrylic, and water based(In Virginia don't need)?

Also are their certain brands to stay away from ? When I ask the local paint shop what was the base material for base coat clear coat he said he didn't know it was PPG/ Omina is what he quoted me.

I'm planning on doing a custom paint Maroon base and spraying the silver Iroc Z logos in the door, painting the buckets black(possibly adding strips) and putting a clear over top of everything. Id prefer not to spend an outrageous amount but enough for it to look eye catching for the time Im putting in it.What is some of the more senior painting guys opinion on what to use (base material or Brands? thanks

All basecoats that I'm aware of are acrylic urethane. Others such as acrylic enamel can be used as a "basecoat", but aren't true basecoats.

I don't use waterborne basecoats primarily because I don't have a heated booth. It dries too slow for air drying.

To find out what the paints are composed of, go to the manufacturers website and read the MSDS. I think you will find that they are all basically the same.

Omni is one of PPGs economy line paints. Many people swear by it. I don't like it.
