Need Part number for Ebrake cable for LS1 rear brakes.
Can't seem to find the part number for the cables. We put the LS1 brakes on my friends 86 Z28 a few months ago and used 91 or 92 cables but I can't seem to remember the part number and he is out of town for a couple of weeks.
These cables were a bolt on with the only modification being done to the cables was opening up the rectangular hole a bit so it would fit on the LS1 ebrake hook.
I just put the LS1 rear on my car and need to get some cables since my inspection expired in June.
Those appear to be the 4th gen cables which don't bolt up to our cars without modding the equalizer.
The ones that work on our cars have more of the inner cable exposed on the end that goes to the equalizer in the trans tunnel.
I haven't installed them, just bought a set to compare and they're just like the GM ones, only a bit "cheaper" in appearance. They'll have to work. They're $20 each.
So both Napa parts: 94597 and 94264, are the correct E-Brake cables (with a bit of Dremeling) to get the LS1 Rear brake's E-Brake to function correctly? These should be the last thing I get before the swap....

Oh yea, and my all-original Turbo Trans Am #437 too!
Yeah I gotta figure out what I'm going to do for the parking brake cables too. Right now I just have them removed until I figure out how I'm going to do the cables. Should finish the brake job in the next 3 days or so (whenever I'm not working and my uncle's free)
im trying to get all the ghetto out of my car and would also like to know do i need the first or second design? btw, theyre only 14xx somethin from rockauto.com

I put a 4th gen Wilwood kit on my car several months back and never posted any pictures of the e-brake setup I did (post was locked) Anyways, this setup is very simular to the LS1 cables .
These are Lokar universal steelbraided cables with clevis'es.
This is for reference:
NAPA United Parking Brake Cable - Rear
Usually ships within 3 to 5 days.
UBP 94264 $ 19.69 1st Design, 1434mm
NAPA United Parking Brake Cable - Rear
Usually ships within 3 to 5 days.
UBP 94597 $ 21.49 2nd Design, 1460mm
Not my post, but the first P/N is for the PBR/1LE rears and I doubt these will work with the LS1s. I have no idea on the others tho...sorry I can't be of more help.
I put on Raybestos parking brake cables today for my LS1 rear swap. I got them from Rockauto for $35 to my door for the pair. They are the first design and they fit like stock after opening up the brake end a bit. PN:BC94264 They were $14.05 each plus a few bucks for shipping...
so, i bought the first design ones, went to install them tonight, and where the front meets up to the divider theyre not the same. do i have to get a divider from a disk car?

On my car, originally a disc/drum car, the first design cables fit perfectly. It looks stock!! I didn't compare the cables to the drum cables, but they did fit in the front divider...
i am working on this but i am driving with out cables, so please find a way!, also who sales ls1 front brake kits ready to go?
Tony

What do you mean "ready to go"? Modified spindles with brackets, ready to be installed? I don't think anyone sells that, maybe a member. If I had the extra time, I would do it for you and trade spindles, but with this hurricane coming I don't have the extra time...
Maybe PM a few people that have done the swap and see if they can help you...
I found a ready to bolt on ls1 brakes on ebay, and wanted to know if this personis a member or not, it looks as you get everthing all ready painted and slotted rotter for 500 dollers. i dont think anyone can do any better than that.
The Tru-Torques are the parts that I purchased. Be sure that when you order them, that you get the right ones when you pick them up. I had to order them twice, the first time one cable didnt come with a spring on it, and the other cable's hook area was too small to modify, so I ordered it a second time, and they sent me two identical cables with the springs and proper hook area for the rear drum hook. It all went on easy after that, but like i said, Ive gotta figure out how to adjust the e-brake, to allow a bit more slack, so that way i'll be able to let the rear drum ebrake release totally. Other than that, they work great. I am wondering if i cross reference the other Napa Part number if it will come back as being the correct length, to release my current issue with the e-brake not releasing totally.. Im gonna try to cross reference it tonight when i get back to advance. Ill let you all know once i get them in or can even order them.
as another note, the 1st design that Eb mentions being for the 1le cars could explain why my cables seem short, and not releasing the rear brakes..
Possibly a dumb question, but will the 4th gen cables drop into the 3rd gen bracket (the one in the trans tunnel with the single cable going to the lever) or is there something more to making it work? I should have my LT1 style rear brakes coming in any day now for my moser rear swap….

Im kinda curious about this as well.. I put a 99 rear in my 92 and got stuck on the brake cables. I did have relocation brackets welded in but it was a problem with the ends of the cable fitting onto the brake lever thing on the rear for the ebrake. The hole wasnt as big as the ls1 cable to get onto the lever.
The cables are also a tight fit as far as length goes.. I wouldnt mind a bit longer setup for overall length. I think the only way to get it to fit is gamble that i can get some brake lines or dremel up the lever on the brake
Does anyone have any close up pics of the lines they used.
as far as my install was concerned i didnt do any relocation brackets, I didnt need any additional fabbing or modding other than the following.
The cables that I give the part number to above are for a 92 Z28 5.7 ltr. They come with a large square end with a spring next to it, and on the other end one has a boxed area and the other cable had a nipple looking ball.
The ends with the large square, should be used on the actual LS1 Drum Hook, for your e-brake. You will have to modify this by using a dremel, to expand the open inner square to get the cable to fit totally on the hook.
The other ends, I had to grind down the ball shaped nipple a bit to get it to fit into my e-brake bracket in the middle fo the driveshaft tunnel, but I dont know if this is due to my bracket being damaged, (it looked crushed a little) or if it was just that way because. The other side I didnt have to grind at all.
As for running the cable, all factory mounts worked without modification, and hung up there without issue.
now, as i stated above, My e-brake doesnt seem to totally be releasing with these cables. I tried to cross reference the other cables that Eb mentioned above last night, and Advance Auto cant get them. Im probably going to go by NAPA and see if i can get them from them. Ill let you know what i find out when i do, and when i get time to put the car back up on jack stands ill try to take some photos.
I'd check with Dyno Don, I think he has pics...I have 2 4th gen LT1 rears outside in my trailer and I'll be checking into this fitment stuff as soon as I can. I have to get rid of this parts car in my driveway and get to a lot of projects that have suddenly landed on my door. I'll be comparing the 4th gen cables to the 3rd gen parking cable out of this parts car.

i dont know if the ebrakes for the LT1 are the same as the LS1. My rear is an LS1 setup, and My buddy has a LT1 setup that we are going to put in his car. It doesnt look like itll fit the same way cause the LT1 has some sort of ebrake spring thing hanging off the calipers.. so im not sure how thats gonna work witht he 92 factory cables.
I went ahead and tried to order the longer brake cables from bendix via advance's ordering. Was able to order them from bendex, at a price of 16.95 each with 5.00 shipping.. each.. so now im waiting for them to come in. as soon as they do, we'll go ahead and try to put them on and see if they are the right stuff. so to speak. I hope they are. once i find out if they are or not ill go ahead and post up part numbers and what not.
This is probably a dumb question, but there's a bracket that the spring on the end of the one cable butts up against that attaches to the caliper, isnt there? My rear end didnt come with one and I just would like to make sure before I search for the pn and then order it from the dealer.

Thanks - and great thread!
what year is your rear out of? it sounds like a pre ls1 rear.
The cable stop on the LS1 rears (98-02 V6 and LS1) have the cable stop attached to the axle with the bolt that holds the lower control arm on, it is the same bracket that also holds the rubber brake line, it's shaped like a "T" if I remember correctly.
Good news.. Cables came in last night. now all i got to do is jack the car up, modify the ends a bit to accept the LS1 EBrake Hooks, and put them on.. see if they work. Im pretty sure they will. Will post more when i do the mods and what not.

OK, won't work...4th gen cables and 3rd gen parking brake pevers. The ends of the cables are designed different, the 4th gens having bigger "knobs" on the ends of the cables and they won't fit in the 3rd gen ones right.

So what's the conclusion? I've been very very tempted to do a T-5 swap in my car now since my g/f just bought a 5spd car (not a "fast" car though), and I obviously can't do it unless I have a parking brake!
I am on my second set of cables, first ones were the right sheathing length but the cable was too short and the end for the caliper was too small to grind the inside larger. This had a ball at the other end.
The second set I have looks right but it's too cold to try and fit them on. This one has a cylindrical knub at the end.
I need to get my ebrakes working since I have a manual now and it's a pain pulling in and out of the garage. No garage door opener so I have to get in and out, so I have to turn the car off.
Well, let me know when you try them out because I'd like to get them working again to get my little metal bracket from making noise against my driveshaft. I've zip-tied it out of the way but it always manages to hit again. I'd just like to have them working too because I'd like to convert to a 5/6 speed this summer.
