Brake Pads

Posted this in Supension/Chassis before I saw this section...

I am upgrading my Fiero brakes to brakes that use the same pads at Third Gen calipers. What brake pads do you recommend?
I'm looking for something "near race". I don't mind if I have to warm it up a little bit before it grabs, as long as it doesn't fade during track days on fast courses and hard driving down my favorite mountain.

It will be used with 11.25" rotors in a car with rear weight bias and slightly less than 3K# race weight. Ought to be a braking monster when I finish putting the new engine together.

I'm also thinking about SSBC or Wilwood replacement calipers.

Thanks!

P.S. Do 1LE's use larger rotors than regular cars or just different calipers?

1LEs use a 12" rotor and a different caliper.

Can't recommend pads to ya, I never ran a track pad on the stock setup.

The SSBC 2-piston replacement calipers aren't worth it. There was a thread posted not to long ago about them. Wilwood doesn't make a direct replacement that I'm aware of, but I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Willwood DOES make a direct replacment, but they're not street calipers, as they don't have piston boots.

Got a link to the SSBC thread? I'm curious about it, but it's too late at night to go looking.

Wrong again. Damn. Haha

Did you weigh the stock iron caliper vs. the Wilwood replacement? Might be interesting for the Auto-X guys who need less unsprung weight rather then longevity.
