Brake Lights won't Turn off

Alright so I drove my car a week ago and it ran like a champ. I got in it today and tried to start it up and I got nothing. When I get out of the car sometimes the brake lights remain on? I lifted the pedal with my foot and the lights turned off. As a quick fix, I put and bungee cord around the steering wheel and wrapped it around the pedal and that kept the lights off. Has anyone had this same problem or know what it could be? I think it has to be a spring or something but am not sure. Any helped would be greatly appreciated.

Just adjust the switch.... IIRC it just slides in a clip sort of thing. Just push it in toward the pedal.

Do these pedals have springs. If they do your's could be worn. If not like was already said adjust your switch. Not sure but it should be behind the brake pedal, towards the top. If not it will be somewhere by the pedal arm.

Re: Brake Lights won't Turn off

no spring...theres a big one in the master cylinder that keeps the pedal up. heres how to fix it: push pedal down a bit, then push the switch down some. now yank on the pedal. problem solved. i had to tweek the tab the switch rests on a bit, but its all that simple.
