Rear Caliper Swap Info Needed/Lesson learned

My basic question is what rear calipers can I swap to replace the cast iron ones. Here's the background...and lesson learned.

I got all excited at the junkyard recently and bought a 10 bolt, disc rear for my 84 z28 without doing my homework first. The rear was pulled from 90 RS but the axle coding indicates it was from an 87. Only after I brought it home and researched here did I realize the issues with the cast iron calipers.

I'm aware of the recall and the recall kit for these calipers but that doesn't seem to resolve the issue of continually having to use the emergency brake to adjust the rear brakes. So, I need to know if there is a kit available to possibly swap the PBR calipers or others for the cast iron ones. I'm guessing new mounting brackets, possibly larger rotors are needed (the ones on the rear now are 10.5"). Curious also about proportioning valve, master cylinder and ebrake cables. (I have all these from the donor car.)

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Mike

However, should you choose to upgrade, you might consider the following approach:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/fa...iscs-89-a.html (82-88 Discs to 89-92/Pics and Part Numbers)

Re: Rear Caliper Swap Info Needed/Lesson learned

Thank you James,

Actually I've read your earlier post several times before and found it very useful. I checked GM PartsDirect.com and there is no listing for left side 10-bolt backing plate (P/N 10136853) although the right side (10136854) is available. Are you aware of any other sources? I think once I locate the backing plates I'll be able to piece together caliper, rotors etc.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Ed Miller (ebmiller88) and http://www.andyz28.com/catalog.htm Look about halfway down.

yup...Im doing the same thing you are. I followed JamesC's thread and ordered the parts according to the part numbers he described. Very helpful, thanks James. ....Oh yeah and edmiller hooked me up with the backing plates....you wont find them anywhere else man...trust me...and andyz28 was kinda ridiculousy expensive. Ill let you know how mine goes.
