brake and rim question

Hello all,

I have a 92 camaro rs 305.

I am interested in putting disc brakes on the rear in replace of the stock drums. My question is does anyone know where I can get a cheap conversion kit or know what will work off a used rear axle. I'm not really wanting to pay near 1 thousand dollars for a conversion kit.

My second question is I know of someone who is selling a 4th gen set of rims and tires for great price and am interested. I havent seen them yet to see what they are exactly so all I know is they are 4th gen chrome rims. Does anyone know if I would have problems putting them on my 3rd gen without spacers. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks lot.

Re: brake and rim question

Ok I probably am going to purchase the 4th gen wheels today and want to know exactly what size spacers i will need to get them to fit on my 3rd gen. I have drum brakes in rear. Will i need spacers for all 4 wheels or just the backs etc.

Thanks

Re: brake and rim question

4th gen wheels fit the rear with no mods - you need the spacers for the fronts only.

If sticking with the stock 3rd gen wheels, and you don't mind the rear wheels sticking out 1.5 inches on each side, a very easy disc rear upgrade (as well as posi-traction AND gear upgrade) is to install a 4th gen rear end. I installed a LS1 rear, and so for under $300 I got LS1 rear disc brakes, posi-traction, and 3.42 gears.

If using 4th gen wheels, they will not stick out farther on the 4th gen rear, but still need spacers for the fronts.

Also, if interested in chrome wheels, you can have any wheel chromed for $400 a set of 4 +shipping (another $100 usually).

Thanks

Re: brake and rim question

OMG!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about 1000% BAD information! Newbie there is SOOOOOO wrong.

4th gen wheels DO NOT fit a 3rd gen rear axle, without spacers. Physicaly NOT possible, No way, no how.

3rd gen rear wheels on a 4th gen axle, stick out ZERO. I have provided pics in the past, showing PROOF! They SIT out (not stick out), but still are under the fenders.

Get some real advice & ignore what newbie said. All he got right was spacers wil be needed on the front, no matter what.

But really...Get wheels that FIT. And don't replace adapeters.

Re: brake and rim question

Ok so what your saying as I've read before is I need spacers for all four wheels to make these wheels work. Correct?

Re: brake and rim question

Yes.

Front = spacers for 4th gen wheels ALWAYS

Rear =.......

4th gen wheels on a 4th gen axle/no spacers
3rd gen wheels on 4th gen axle/no spacers

You only need the spacers, if you put 4th gen wheels, on a 3rd gen axle. In that case, they are REQUIRED.

You're absolutely right. I got myself confused

Talk about senile ... all last night I knew I posted something wrong, but couldn't remember what it was. Maybe over the years I've drank too much antifreeze and sniffed too many gas fumes!

{but you must admit, the gas fumes do smell good!}

SORRY!!!
